Robert Shade Obituary

Robert John Shade

April 2, 1949 - November 5, 2024

On November 5, 2024, Robert John Shade, 75, of Greensboro, NC, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Robert "John" was born on April 2, 1949,, to Robert and Rosalie Shade in West Chester, PA. When he was 12, his family moved to Elmhurst, IL, where he graduated from York High School in 1967. He went on to study industrial engineering at Bradley University, where he met the love of his life, Lynn. They married in 1972.

After graduating, he began his professional career in Peoria, IL, at Keystone Steel. Several years later, he took a position as a sales engineer at Maund Richards. Then, in 1985, after much soul searching, he and Lynn decided to pack up their three children, Matthew, Jessica, and Michael, and move the family from Peoria to Greensboro. This move was no small feat as it entailed a 12 hour car ride with three kids ranging in age from three to 10, a full sized collie in a crate and parakeets in a cage riding in the back seat with the kids. Not only was the family physically moving from the Midwest to the South, but John's career path was also leading him to a new professional destination. John had always been interested in the stock market and investments and was eager to begin working as a financial advisor for J.C. Bradford & Company. In 2000, he decided to continue his career as a financial advisor with Edward Jones where he and his son, Matt, would work in the same office for 23 years.

John was a man of strong faith in Jesus and truly exemplified the characteristics of what a Christian should be: loving, dependable, consistent, honest, kind, genuine, selfless, and trustworthy. He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Those who knew him will always miss but never forget his lively sense of humor, positive attitude, and the ever present sparkle in his eye.

While John had various interests and hobbies such as reading his Bible, playing tennis, gardening, doing yard work, volunteering in the community, and watching sports on TV, he especially enjoyed traveling with Lynn and family. Favorite destinations included Italy and many family trips to Myrtle Beach, SC and Hawaii. John also enjoyed attending sporting events such as Wake Forest football and basketball games and tennis tournaments such as the Cincinnati Open. John's love of sports also led him to coach many of his kids' teams during their childhood years including Y T-ball, basketball, baseball, softball, and pony league all stars.

John was predeceased by his father, Robert Dean Shade; and his mother, Rosalie Mae Shade. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lynn Janet Shade of Greensboro; his brother, Ronald Dean Shade of Kerrville, TX; his son, Matthew John Shade of Summerfield, NC ; his daughter and son-in-law, Jessica Lynn (José Luis) Shade Venegas of Pfafftown, NC; his son, Michael Robert Shade of Greensboro; and his grandchildren, Molly Shade, Eva Venegas, Noelle Shade and Lucas Venegas.

It's an understatement to say John will be missed in this world. He has touched and had a profound impact on many lives. Those of us who were fortunate enough to know and love him will never be able to fill the void his passing creates. But, we can take solace in the fact that heaven has gained another cherished angel and that John is happy and content in God's glory.

A celebration of life will be held at Westover Church, 505 Muirs Chapel Road, Greensboro, NC 27410 on Wednesday, November 20, at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 or Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, 1 Billy Graham Parkway, Charlotte, NC 28201.

Hi Lynn,

Just received the Bradley newsletter and was saddened to hear of John´s passing.

If you recall I was John´s fraternity (PKT) son. I have fond memories of John. As a freshman John helped me to get through it.

My deepest condolences to you and your family. I pray you are all doing well.

Sincerely,
Peter Morici

Grief can be so hard, but our special memories help us cope. Remembering John today and always. John was best man at our wedding in May of ´74 and I lost contact with/him after the move to North Carolina. John and I attended York HS and Bradley University together. I have best memories of John as a person, our fraternity time at Bradley, and our friendship. God Bless.

Great, great person. Heaven is CERTAINLY EVEN BRIGHTER with the rising of John Shade. To know this guy was to love him.

My brother Gary and I shared an office across the hall from John and fine son Matt. We loved to talk baseball.

John had a unique magnetism and warm personality. I always felt better after seeing him, even if I was having a tough day.

John leaves a rich legacy which Matt will carry on. Hope I am fortunate enough to join you in heaven someday John.
