GREENSBORO Roy Lynn Horney, Sr. (Paw Paw), 82, loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and devoted husband of 60 years, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 22, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday July 26, 2017 at Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Interment with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall following the interment. Mr. Horney was born in Guilford County on October 25, 1933 to the late Robert Roy Horney and Helen N. Horney. He graduated from Pleasant Garden High School in 1951 and attended computer training. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1954-1956. His professional career included the Greensboro Police Department, Guilford County Tax Department and Guilford County Information Services. He retired from Guilford County with 37 years of service. Mr. Horney is survived by his wife, Phyllis S. Horney; a son, Roy Lynn Horney, Jr. (Kay); a daughter, Lynda H. Gordon (Jay); grandchildren, Kimberlyn H. Gunn (Greg), Joel Gordon, Ashlyn Horney, Jacob Gordon; and a great-grandchild, Callan Gunn (his Little Buddy). He was preceded in death by his parents. Lynn was a lifelong and faithful member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church where throughout his life he served as a Sunday school teacher, chairman of the Weekday School Board, maintenance manager, and on numerous other church committees. His passions were serving the Lord, his church and spending time with his family. He enjoyed Tabernacle Softball, Carolina Tar Heels sports and Atlanta Braves baseball. His membership in community organizations included American Legion Post 53, Civitan International and Moose Lodge 685.The family would like to extend its most heartfelt appreciation to Southeast Medic 2 and the Alamance Community Fire Department for their compassion and exemplary service.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tabernacle United Methodist Church Christian Life Center, 5721 Methodist Rd., Greensboro, N.C. 27406.Forbis and Dick Pleasant Garden Chapel is serving the Horney family.Online condolences may be offered at www.forbisanddick.com.
