CHATTANOOGA, TN Ruth Brody Young died on November 6, 2016 in Soddy Daisy Health Care Center, in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. She was born on March 4, 1920 in the Bronx, New York to Harry and Rebecca Brody. She moved to Greensboro, North Carolina with her husband, Samuel John Young, in August, 1959. She spent the last four years of her life in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Ruth, known as Ruthie, Mom, Nana Ruth, or Nanny, was so loved by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and all who knew her! Ruth was married seventy-one years to her husband, Samuel John Young, who died February 5, 2012. Her survivors include her daughter, Ellen Freiberg and her son and daughter-in-law (who was her "daughter", too), Dr. Lawrence Young and Carol Young; her grandchildren are Richard and Michelle Freiberg, Dr. Craig and Dara Freiberg, Evan Young and Lisa Wells, and Traci Young. She had four great-grandchildren: Elijah Young, Asher, Elliot, and Rory Freiberg and numerous nieces and nephews, and friends. She is also survived by her siblings, Rosemary Brody Thropp (Harold) and Sydney Brody (Shirley). The family would like to thank the staff at Morning Pointe in Hixson and the staff at Soddy Daisy Health Care Center, and Avalon Hospice, (with a special thank you to Katy Loyd), for their loving and compassionate care of our mother. A graveside service is planned for Monday, November 7, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Hebrew Cemetery in Greensboro, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer's Association or Beth David Synagogue, 806 Windview Drive, Greensboro, North Carolina 27410.
