Terence Reed Obituary

Reed, Dr. Terence John

May 24, 1935 - July 26, 2021

Dr. Terence Reed of Greensboro died on July 26 following an acute illness. He was born in Houlton, Maine on May 24, 1935, to Carl and Soni Reed (deceased). He graduated from the Kinkaid School in Houston, Texas in 1953; earned his baccalaureate in physics from Rice University in 1957 and his master's in mathematics in 1959. He pursued further graduate study at the University of Colorado and graduated with his Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Minnesota in 1966.

Dr. Reed enjoyed several decades in mathematics and computer science education serving on the faculties of the University of Colorado at Boulder, Marshall University West Virginia, UNC-Greensboro, and UNC-Charlotte, retiring from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Upon retirement, he returned to North Carolina to be near family.

Terry was committed to the search for knowledge and life-long learning. He amassed a library of diverse topics exploring the sciences, arts, and philosophy. He was a walking encyclopedia of information. He had a dry sense of humor and an appreciation of the absurdities in life, which he kept until the end. He wanted to know all there was to know – Now he does!

He is survived by his sister, Dr. Sandra "Micqui" Reed of Stokesdale, NC. We wish to express our appreciation to the Moses Cone Hospital Cardiovascular ICU for the excellent care by its physicians and nurses.
