Willena Moore Obituary

Willena Wooten Moore

August 22, 1932 - August 31, 2025

Willena Wooten Moore was born August 22, 1932. She was the fourth child born to William Edward Wooten and Treva Mills Wooten, in the Quaker Deep Creek Community of Yadkin County. She was a member of New Garden Friends Meeting in Greensboro, N.C., for many years. She has resided at Friends Homes Guilford for the past eight years.

Willena graduated from High Point Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and worked at Cone Hospital as a RN before enrolling college and receiving her BSN degree. She continued with her education at the University of South Carolina where she received her masters degree in Gerontology. Nursing was her life and she put in 42 years in the field: in hospitals and nursing homes from Greensboro, N.C. to Greenville, S.C., to Winston Salem, N.C.

Willena was preceded in death by both parents; infant sister, Lois; sister, Ruth Wooten Adams (Mark); brother, Harold Wooten (Helen); nephew, Joseph Donald Adams (Jean); niece, Edith Gail Adams Thomas (Fred). She is survived by sister, Faye Wooten Nelson (Ralph); nieces, Carol Southard (Bob), Lynn Feero (Rob), Sharon Nelson; and nephews, Joel Wooten (Frances) and Russell Nelson (Janine).Willena was interested in the life of her great nieces and nephews. Always trying to keep up with their "where-abouts." Her Mills' cousins were her last connection to their grandparents which she needed to fill in with her genealogy research and then in later life just their friendships.

To celebrate a life well lived, we will have a Memorial Service in New Garden Friends Meeting, 2 p.m. on September, 21, 2025. Visitation and refreshments following.

Per her request, her ashes will be put beside her parents grave in Deep Creek Friends Cemetery, Yadkin County and some on the family farm.

Memorial gifts may be made to New Garden Friends Meeting or Friends Homes Guilford for Residents Fund.
