Alpha Grubbs Obituary

Alpha Hunter Grubbs, 75, of 339 Elijah Simmons Road, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 10, 2009, at her residence after a sudden illness.

A native of Greenville County, she was the daughter of the late Rev. E.W. Hunter and Ollie Harrison Hunter. Mrs. Grubbs was a member of the Woodruff Church of God, where she was also a member of the Ladies Bible Class and the Joy Club. She was a retired employee with Walmart Distribution and had formerly been employed with Celanese in Greenville and Martin Greenhouse and Nursery.

Surviving are her husband: Marvin E. Grubbs of the home; three daughters: Cheryl Ballard and her husband, Terry, of Woodruff, Deborah Morgan and her husband, Benny, of Woodruff and Crystal Ratliff and her husband, Bush, of Inman; four sons: Dale Grubbs and his wife, Karen, of Woodruff, Milton Grubbs of Woodruff, Stanley (Ralph) Grubbs of Woodruff, and Shaun Bradley Grubbs and his wife, Cindy, of Enoree; one brother: James Hunter of Greenville; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Grubbs was predeceased by a son: Aubrey Grubbs; and a sister: Edna Brown.

Visitation will be held Saturday, December 12, 2009, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Lanford Funeral Home, 257 North Main Street, Woodruff.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 13, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the Woodruff Church of God by the Rev. Curtis Terry, Rev. James Shealy and Rev. Charlie Driggers. Interment will follow in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Knight, Joel Lyda, Marion Simmons, William Hayes, Walter Housand and Charles O'Shields. Honorary Escort will be Curtis Culpepper, Donald Patterson, Freddie Bright and Bobby Brown and the Ladies Bible Class.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Woodruff Church of God Building Fund, P.O. Box 275, Woodruff, SC 29388.

The family is at the home of Deborah and Benny Morgan, 331 Elijah Simmons Road, Woodruff.
