Barry Drake Obituary

Barry Grant Drake, age 53, of 1209 E. Washington St.-Unit 306, Greenville, 29601, died Monday, May 5, 2008, at The McCall Hospice House.

Born in Belton, S.C., he was the son of Doreen Watson Drake and the late Ansel Grant Drake.

Mr. Drake was employed as a Manager of Information Technology with Fluor/Ameco in Greenville. He received his undergraduate and MBA degrees from Clemson University. He was a member and past treasurer of The Greenville Chorale. He shared a love of orchids with many people through his association with Mountain View Orchids. Mr. Drake was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church and choir.

Surviving in addition to his mother is his partner, Kurt Studier. Also surviving are a son, Russell Grant Drake and his wife Rebecca; and his daughter, Jennifer Elizabeth Gunter and her husband Clifford. Mr. Drake is also survived by his brother, Robert Derrell Drake and wife Patricia; nephews, Robert and Andrew; and his sister, Rita Karolyn Craig and husband Steve; niece, Meredith D'Agostino; and nephew Steven. Grandchildren include Alexander Grant Drake, Christian Scott Drake, Brianna Elizabeth Rose Drake, Sebastian Edward Gunter and Destiny Elizabeth Gunter.

Visition will be held Friday, May 9, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mountain View Orchids, 900 Pendleton Street, Greenville, SC 29601.

A Requiem Mass for Mr. Drake will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2008, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1002 South Main Street, Greenville, SC 29601

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to McCall Hospice House, 1836 W. Georgia Rd., Simpsonville, SC 29680, The Greenville Chorale, P.O. Box 16851, Greenville, SC 29606 or St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 1002 South Main St., Greenville, SC 29601.
