Bettie Traxler Obituary

Bettie London Traxler

Greenville - Bettie London Wooten Traxler, 97, widow of William Byrd Traxler Sr., passed away May 7, 2020. Born May 25, 1922 in Fayetteville, NC, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Myers Wooten and Lucy London Anderson Wooten. A graduate of St. Mary's College in Raleigh, NC, she was an active member of the Altar Guild and Episcopal Church Women at Christ Episcopal Church Greenville for over fifty years and a former member of the Quadrille and Colonial Dames of America.

After marriage in 1946, Bettie moved to her husband's hometown of Greenville, SC, where they raised their family. She is survived by sons, William B. Traxler, Jr. (Pat) and Thomas W. Traxler (Beth), both of Greenville and a daughter, Lucy L. McDow (Thomas) of Rock Hill, SC. She is also survived by her adoring grandchildren, Will Traxler, James Traxler, Dr. Brannon Traxler (Tony Roach), and Tommy Traxler (Rachel Bright) and three step-grandchildren, Dodie McDow (Alison), Randy McDow (Lauren), and Mary Croom McDow. She is also survived by her siblings, Tommy Wooten (Elizabeth) of Fayetteville, NC, and Lucy Lynn Wofford of Arlington, VA, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Because covid-19 was the cause of death, her three children who had been with her are currently under quarantine. There will be a private funeral at Christ Church cemetery where she will be buried. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

My deepest condolences to the family of Bettie Traxler. We were Cleveland Forest neighbors in the 1970s and 1980s. We both served on the Christ Church Altar Guild in the 1980s and enjoyed the ECW as well.

Billy, Tommy and Lucy, I am so sorry to hear of Bettie' s death. I always love coming back to Greenville and especially Cleveland Forest. One of my fondest memories is visiting with Bettie at her home. We talked extensively about our life in the Forest and told each other many funny stories. Mama always said she hated to draw Bettie as a bridge partner because Bettie was so good and mama was so poor. My best and love to all of you . Cleve
