Brittany Langley Lawson

- - 1982-2021

Born on October 29, 1982 to Dr. Jerry C. Langley and Sandy S. Langley, Brittany arrived three weeks early, exhibiting an eager zest for life. As a child, she loved to dance, play with her friends and cousins, and eat strawberries and her grandmother's collard greens.

She attended Greenville High School, where she was a cheerleader and an excellent student. Brittany loved to learn, and was an intrinsically nurturing person. After graduating from GHS, she attended Clemson University and discovered a passion for nursing - a natural fit for her caregiving nature. After earning a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, she worked for Bon Secours St. Francis Hospital in their Cardiac Intensive Care Unit for 14 years. She took pride in the compassionate care she provided to thousands of patients and their families, who were undoubtedly blessed by her calm, steady, and reassuring spirit.

In 2013, she met her next-door neighbor, Dr. Scott Lawson, who became the love of her life. They married on May 14, 2016 and enjoyed travelling the world together before welcoming their son, Harrison, in 2017, and daughter, Hampton, in 2019.

As a mother, Brittany was in her element. She approached motherhood with characteristic purpose: she was highly disciplined with her self-care while pregnant, studied different childrearing programs and philosophies, and created a home environment in which her children could learn and thrive. She was intentional in developing a well-rounded weekly schedule that included trips to Conestee and Cleveland parks, the Greenville Zoo, The Children's Museum, and Paris Mountain. She loved sharing the outdoors with her children, and reveled in time spent with them, sitting on park benches, enjoying a picnic or snack. She never took the preciousness and gift of that time for granted. Brittany understood, to paraphrase the writer Robert Breault, that those seemingly little moments were actually life's biggest. Many of these outings included the family's cherished Goldendoodle, Chloe, who passed away alongside her.

On matters relating to pregnancy and childrearing, Brittany was both a wealth of information and inspiration for her family and friends. Through motherhood, Brittany discovered that she enjoyed teaching, and had recently begun serving as a Clinical Nursing Instructor at Clemson/Prisma Health.

Brittany was a beautiful, shining light whose love of life attracted many friends. Many of these long-lasting friendships began when she was a young child, and are a testament to her loyalty and authenticity. She was an empathetic and uplifting friend who generously shared in the joys and heartaches experienced by those she loved. She was creative, pragmatic, and had an infectious sense of humor - sharing life with her was fun!

Brittany found great joy in time spent with family, and she cherished her relationships with her parents, her brother, and his family. This was evidenced by their decisions to live within walking distance of each other, and in the time they consistently spent together.

In recent months, she exhibited an exceptional radiance. Brittany was blessed with a devoted and doting husband, two beautiful children, family and friends who loved her, and a fulfilling career. She was in the midst of a beautiful phase of life.

Brittany is survived by her husband, Dr. Scott Lawson, and their beloved children, Harrison Scott Lawson and Hampton Alexandra Lawson; parents, Dr. Jerry C. Langley and Sandy S. Langley; brother and sister-in-law, Spencer D. Langley and Kristina G. Langley; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Lawson, sister -in-law and brother-in-law, Kelley Sanders and Paul Sanders; nieces Ashley Pettus and Surett M. Langley, and nephew, Groves D. Langley; and aunts, uncles, cousins, co-workers, and friends.

The family wishes to thank the first responders and law enforcement officials who have shared their expertise and time, and the greater community, whose overwhelming generosity has brought much-needed peace and hope.

The family will receive friends at 1PM on Thursday, June 3, with a funeral service to follow at 2PM at First Baptist Greenville.

The family has plans to create special places in Brittany's honor where people can sit, gather together, and revel in the joy of life, as Brittany so often did. The Brittany Langley Lawson Memorial Fund has been established with the Community Foundation of Greenville to help bring this vision, tentatively called "Brittany's Benches," to life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to the Community Foundation of Greenville's website, https://www.cfgreenville.org/giving/donate/ and selecting the Brittany Langley Lawson Memorial Fund from the drop-down menu. Gifts may also be mailed to: Community Foundation of Greenville, 630 E. Washington St., Suite A, Greenville, SC 29601. Please note in the memo line that your gift is to be directed to the Brittany Langley Lawson Memorial Fund.

Brittany's passion for life, and her love for her family and friends, are her greatest legacy. Her family hopes that her life will inspire others to appreciate each moment, and fill them with joy and love.

I was a good friend of Scott's when he met Brittany. Although I only had the chance to meet her a handful of times, she was always the type of person that you just wanted to be around. I could tell from the start that was was the perfect partner for Scott. And I believe she proved that to be true. They created 2 beautiful lives together and I have no doubt that Brittany's life will shine through them.

Brittany as I called her “ Brittany the goddess Langley” was my preceptor as a baby nurse. She taught me so much with patience and sometimes tough lessons but all was done with love to make me a better nurse. I will always credit my success as a nurse to her. She was my wing man and she never let me down. I loved her then and when I left the unit and she started having babes she just glowed as always, but more so because she was carrying a life she looked forward to raising. I will never forget her or Scott, he took care of my Chloe with her cheer injuries with Britts help.
Brittany you will always hold a special place in my heart and if I could one day be half the person you were I will be forever grateful!! You are loved and missed.

When life is interrupted and grief becomes the companion there are no words from humans big enough to understand your pain. But know your Father in Heaven understands, because He lost His own Son too. His loss though became our Hope so that one day we all be reunited in perfect peace and joy...... Take your time to mourn and grief. Jesus is near the broken hearted and so are we. In prayers for you Dr. Lawson, Harrison and Hampton.

Brittany was my friend, everytime I saw her she greeted me with enthusiasm and love. We talked at length about her beloved husband, her children, her family and she wanted to catch up with what I had been doing. She showed me pictures of travel to the Greek Islands, her beautiful family and then we talked about plans for the future. She gave me ideas on local activities, her favorite parks, where to take my grandson to be outside in nature and to enjoy the splendor of what our Lord gave us to enjoy. We discussed our faith in God. She was a remarkable person and I am grateful to have known and been a friend to her. All my memories will be cherished until we meet again one sweet day.

Dear Family and Friends of Brittany Langley Lawson, we are praying for you all. She touched so many lives. There are not enough words to express how much Mary is loved. She is with Jesus, walking on Streets of Gold, and in a New, Perfect Body. Brittany always had such a warm smile and loved everyone. She was always concerned with other people.

Brittany an exemplary wife, mother, sister, cousin and friend. There are not enough words to convey how much we loved her. She always had a positive outlook on life. She missed being able to go to church, and being with family..

May God provide your every need including grace, peace, comfort, love and discernment. I cherish all if the memories and her sweet smile. She was such a gracious Southern Lady.

If there is someone, either a Friend or Family Member, who is not saved, may this be the time that someone will repent of their sins and accepts Jesus as their Lord and Savior. Remember the special times shared with Brittany. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.

Love and prayers,
