Edith Merrill Obituary

Edith Shelton Merrill, 79, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, of Greenville, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, December 11, 2007.

Born in Newport, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Robert and Ella Burgess Shelton.

Mrs. Merrill retired from J.P. Stevens Monaghan Plant. She was a member of City View First Baptist Church and the Deborah Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Merrill loved being a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, being with friends and family and hosting family get togethers and meeting and talking with others.

Surviving are her husband, Gilbert G. Merrill of the home; a daughter, Diane M. Thomas of Greenville; three sons, Michael G. Merrill, Gary Merrill, and Mark Merrill, all of Easley; eight grandchildren, Matthew Thomas and wife Melissa, Jason Thomas, Michael Thomas, Gary Merrill, II, Joy Gessert, Katelyn Lesley, Ashley Johnson, and Jennifer Powell and husband Joel; and three great-grandchildren, Julia Merrill, Isabella and Cross Powell; a sister, Evelyn Hopkins of Greenville; and a brother, Arthur Shelton of Newport, Tenn.

She is preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 12, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

The funeral service will be Thursday, December 13, 2007, at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon Street, Greenville, SC 29605.

The family is at the residence.
