Fred Martin Obituary

Fred McDuffie Martin, Jr.

Simpsonville

Fred McDuffie Martin, Jr., 63, of Simpsonville, went to be with Jesus on Friday, November 29, 2013.

Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Fred McDuffie Martin, Sr. and Christine Carter Martin. A member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church, Fred was a devoted husband, loving father and dedicated grandfather.

Fred grew up in Greenville and attended J.L. Mann High School and Gardner Webb University. He then proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War before returning to Greenville.

After a 23 year career with J.E. Sirrine, Fred started, owned and operated a small business as a photographer. Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed restoring classic cars in his spare time. He was known as "the Dad that could fix anything". Fred loved being surrounded by his family, and most of all, spending time with his wife and best friend.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Barbara Thompson Martin; two daughters, Ashley Edwards and husband Shawn of Easley and Tiffany Martin of Greenville; son, Matt Martin of Greenville; four grandchildren, Bryce, Collin, Madalyn and Meredith Edwards; and three brothers, David, Bruce, and Alan Martin, all of Greenville.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 1, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:15 p.m. at Rocky Creek Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the church. Burial will be held on Monday, December 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Rocky Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
