James Allbaugh Obituary

James William Allbaugh of Seneca passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Hospice of the Upstate after an extended illness.

A native of Ames, Iowa, he was born on Jan. 14, 1930, to the late Dr. Leland and Cora Allbaugh. He was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Robert Allbaugh. He received his B.S. degree from Iowa State University, playing in a jazz band during his college years.

Mr. Allbaugh started his professional career at radio stations KASI and WHO in Des Moines. He then entered the world of advertising with Better Homes & Gardens, also of Des Moines. From there he was transferred to the Detroit office. He moved on to Newsweek magazine, eventually becoming the Detroit manager. But New York City beckoned, and it was off to the Big Apple to become a vice president/advertising director, a position he held until his retirement. He retired in 1984 after being with the company for 25 years.

Mr. Allbaugh is survived by his wife, Susan; son and daughter-in-law, James and Melanie Allbaugh of Denver; and son, Mark Allbaugh of Atlanta. He also leaves behind a beautiful granddaughter, Olivia Anne. One of his greatest joys was coloring with her, his only grandchild.

His family would like to express deep gratitude to the Hospice of the Foothills and Hospice of the Upstate for their kind, compassionate and loving care all these many months.

For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Foothills, 390 Keowee School Road, Seneca, SC 29672.

An open reception for family and friends will be held at Circa 1930 on Ram Cat Alley in Seneca on Sunday, Aug. 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. A family service will take place in Iowa at a later date.
