James Vaughn Obituary

James Robert Vaughn, 65, of 234 Cureton Lane, died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2002, at his residence.

Born in Belton, Mr. Vaughn was a son of Lydia Campbell Welch of Greenwood and the late Henry Johnson Vaughn. Mr. Vaughn was a retired vice president of NationsBank in Pickens, and was an active member of Pickens First Baptist Church, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Vaughn was also very active in church, civic and community affairs: Was a 1959 Erskine College graduate, was president of Pickens Chamber of Commerce, was a member of the American Institute of Banking, the S.C. Bankers Association, was former music director of Millbrook Baptist Church in Aiken, was past president of Liberty-Pickens Lion's Club, was Rocky Bottom Camp of the Blind Board Member, and was former Cannon Memorial Hospital Board Member.

Surviving Mr. Vaughn is his wife, Rachel H. Vaughn, of the home; his mother, Lydia Campbell Welch, of Greenwood; two sons, Henry Blake Vaughn of Simpsonville, and Rhett Harvey Vaughn and his wife Susan, of Pickens; two grandchildren, Madison R. Vaughn and James Seth Vaughn, both of Pickens; one brother, Larry D. Vaughn and his wife Shelly, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and one stepbrother, Melvin R. Welch and his wife Donna, of Abbeville.

Funeral services for Mr. Vaughn will be held at 3 p.m. today, Aug. 23, 2002, at Pickens First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Fred Stone and Dr. Lloyd Batson officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Serving as pallbearers: Senator Larry Martin, Milton Ponder, John Holland III, Rick A. Watson, Murray Hughes and David Harper.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the T.L. Lanham Sunday School Class, and the active and in-active deacons of Pickens First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Music Dept. of Pickens First Baptist Church, 406 E. Main St., Pickens, SC 29671; or Cannon Memorial Hospital, 123 W. G. Acker Drive, Pickens, SC 29671. - Dillard Memorial Funeral Home.
