John J. "Jack" Martin III

John Martin Obituary

John J. "Jack" Martin III, 41, of Westminster Place, 11 E. Augusta Place, died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2001, at St. Francis Hospital.

Born in Houston, Texas, he was a son of Dorothy Law Martin of Greenville and Litchfield Beach, and John J. Martin Jr. of Greenville. He was a graduate of Greenville High School, Anderson College and attended USC-Spartanburg. He had been employed by St. Francis Hospital, the Port Arthur Towing Co., Port Arthur, Texas, and Waccamaw Pottery, Myrtle Beach. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents he is survived by five sisters, Stella Martin Stall and Marian Martin McCreight, both of Greenville, Polly Martin Donnelly of Atlanta, Ga., Margaret Martin Williams of Sumter, and Bonnie Martin Lochner of Seattle, Wash.; three brothers, Michael Alexander Law Martin and Patrick Wallace Martin, both of Greenville, and Charles Joseph Martin of Houston, Texas; and 12 nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church Building Fund, 111 Hampton Ave., Greenville, SC 29601; or a charity of one's choice.

A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. today, with visitation until 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at noon Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rite of Committal will be held at Springwood Cemetery.

The family is at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Holmes Stall Jr., 4 Rockingham Road.
