Joseph "Max" Barker, 72, of 371 Smith Dairy Road, went to be with his Savior on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004.
Born in Oconee County on Aug. 17, 1932, he was an Electrical Maintenance Supervisor with Owens Corning in Anderson. He was often used as the community electrician when the need arose. He was a member of Earles Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, church clerk, assistant Sunday School Director, and also sang in the choir. He also served in the South Carolina National Guard.
Survivors include his loving and attentive wife, Mary Gibson Barker, of the home; a son, Marion Barker, and wife, Kathy, of Westminster; daughters, Suzanne Holmes, and husband, Walker, of Trenton, Katrinka Stevenson, and husband, Barry, of Townville, and Jane Barker, of Anderson; brothers, Roy Barker, of La France, and J.E. "Jake" Barker, of Anderson; sisters, Grace Golden, of Crossroads Community, Nell Stone and Mildred Massey, of Earles Grove Community; mother-in-law, Bessie Gibson, of Westminster; five grandsons, Joseph and John Barker, Cale Holmes, and Andrew and Landon Stevenson; three granddaughters, "Me-Max's Princesses" Dana Ortaldo, Callie Holmes and Kalyn Stevenson; two precious great-grandchildren, Catherine Ortaldo and Evan Ortaldo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, the late John F. and Lillian Lay Barker; brothers, Josh, John Sam and Donnie Ray Barker; and a sister, Barbara Ann Barker Williams precede him in death.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at Earles Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Kenny Owens and Dr. Robert Puckett officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall, where they will be celebrating the life of Max as he is walking, talking and singing in Heaven.
