Joseph Craig Obituary

Joseph Rudolph "Rudy" Craig Sr., 77, died Dec. 5, 2001, at Westside Nursing Center.

Born in Liberty, he was a son of the late Robert C. and Jodie Craig. Rudolph enlisted in the Army Air Force in August 1942. He served as an engineer gunner and flew 50 combat missions in the European Theatre while based in Italy. He was discharged in September 1945 as a Tech Sergeant Gunnery Instructor - B-29 Heavy Bombers. He was awarded the Air Medal, three Oak Clusters, seven Battle Stars, Good Conduct Medal and Sharp Shooter in Gunnery. He worked for Greenville Textile Supply for many years as a textile supply salesman and was a member of First Baptist Church of Greenville.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Jean Toohey Craig of Westside Nursing Center; a daughter, Patricia Craig King of Columbia; a son, Joseph Rudolph Craig Jr. of Greenville; a sister, Edna H. Barbare of Greenville; granddaughters, Danielle Rae Craig and Elizabeth Craig King; and grandsons, James Bruce King III and John Wesley Craig.

Memorial service: 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Carpenter Chapel of First Baptist Church of Greenville with visitation prior to the service at 1:30 until 2:20 p.m.

The family is at the residence, 102 Sunset Drive, Greenville. - Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown.
