Joshua Speer Obituary

Lance Cpl. Joshua D. Speer, 21, of 337 Tripp Road, died Sunday, July 6, 2003.

Born in Toccoa, Ga., he was a son of John Wesley and Shirley Keene Speer. of Marietta. He was a member of the United States Marine Corps, having recently returned from duty in Iraq, and was a member of Faith Independent Baptist Church in Cleveland.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his fiancee, Holly Coupe, of Landrum; three sisters, Becky Bourdess, and her husband, David, of Travelers Rest, Mary Terry, and her husband, Brian, of Seneca, and Leah Tripp, and her husband, Daniel, of Anderson, Ind.; and three brothers, Mark Speer, and his wife, Melissa, of Roanoke, Va., Jonathan Speer, and his wife, Heather, of Greenville, and his twin brother, Joseph Speer, of Marietta. He also is survived by many loving aunts; uncles; cousins; nieces; and nephews.

He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Joseph B. and Sarah F. Speer; and his maternal grandparents, Roy M. and Greta O. Douglas.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Clearview Baptist Church, with burial to follow at Bethany Independent Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends this evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Howze Mortuary.

The family will be at the home in Marietta.

Memorials may be made to Holly Coupe College Fund, 224 Goodjoin Road, Landrum, SC 29356.

The Howze Mortuary in Travelers Rest is in charge of arrangements.
