Luke Thompson Obituary
Duncan
Luther (Luke) James Thompson, Sr, 66, passed away on April 11, 2016. He was the loving and devoted husband of Anne Lister Thompson. They shared 45 years of marriage together.
Born in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Carl J. and Gladys Mason Thompson. He graduated from James F. Byrnes High School in 1967 before serving in the United States Navy as a SeaBee from 1968-1970, where he was awarded a Navy Unit Commendation, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He later graduated from Rutledge Community College with a Bachelor in Business Administration in 1978.
A retiree of Cryovac following 21 years of service, Luke Thompson was also an active Brother of the Duncan Masonic Lodge #309 where he was a Past Master and current Secretary. He was also a member of Hejaz Shriners. He was elected to the highest office in the local Shrine, Potentate, in 2007 where he led over 6000 Shriners across 17 counties in Upstate South Carolina.
He was a member of Duncan First Baptist. Very active in the community, he coached little league baseball for 12 years, and was passionate about supporting the youth.
He is survived by his wife, Anne Lister Thompson; three sons, Luther James (Jamie) Jr (Christy), Joshua Clay (Lindsay), and Jon Marcus (Tonia); 5 grandchildren, Ava, Neely, Caitlyn, Hollis, and Betty and a devoted pet, Gracie.
Also surviving are Paul H Thompson, Katie Burger, Carrie Burnette, Lucille Burnette, and Mary Stewart.
He was predeceased by a brother Richard Thompson, and sisters, Ruth Blalock and Evelyn Lancaster.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Stribling Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 3:30 pm Friday at Duncan First with Rev. Carroll Caldwell officiating.
Memorial Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to Shiners Hospital for Children, 950 West Faris Road Greenville, SC 29605 or Veterans Are Heroes, 207 Braelock Drive Greer, SC 29650.
