Phillip Keith McMinn, 47, of 310 Jennings Avenue, Greenwood, and pastor of South Main Street Baptist Church, entered into the presence of the Lord on Oct. 20, 2007.
Phil was born July 12, 1960, in Dalton, Georgia, to Delano and Willene McMinn. He married Phyllis Gregory on August 2, 1980, in Fred, Texas. Phil was a devoted husband and a wonderful father to his four children: Phillip Mark, 20, Micah Stephen, 18, Matthew David, 13, and Mary Ann Grace, 5.
He served the Lord as senior pastor at South Main Street Baptist Church since January 2006 and previously served for 13 years as senior pastor at Brookwood Baptist Church in Lawrenceville, Ga., and for six years as pastor at First Baptist Church of Reynolds, Ga.
Phil's service to His Lord's kingdom began when he felt God's call into the ministry as a teenager. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in religion at East Texas Baptist University, he entered Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, where he received his master of divinity degree. He later received his doctorate of ministry from Luther Rice Seminary, and then in October 2006, he received his doctorate of philosophy from Oxford University Graduate School.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of Greenwood; son Mark, who attends Anderson University; and Micah, Matthew and Mary Ann, who reside in the family home in Greenwood. He is also survived by his parents, Delano and Willene, of Anderson, S.C., his brother, Tom McMinn; and niece, Molly, of Greenwood and Doug McMinn and his wife, Kim, and their children Brent and Sam of Acworth, Ga.,
The family will receive friends at Blyth Funeral Home in Greenwood from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday evening, Oct. 22, 2007. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007, at South Main Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. Russ Chambers, the Rev. Scott Kindig and the Rev. Delano McMinn officiating.
In lieu of flowers, friends can make contributions to a trust fund set up by South Main Street Baptist Church, PO Box 1093, Greenwood, SC 29648.
Deacons and staff members from South Main Street Baptist will serve as pallbearers.
Burial will be at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Anderson, S.C., at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
