Richard Beauchemin Obituary
Richard R. Beauchemin Sr., 71, of Salem, formerly of Winooski, Vt., died Saturday, March 16, 2002, in Sylva, following a long illness.
He was born in Winooski, Vt.,Nov. 12, 1930, son of the late Louis and Irene (Gamelin) Beauchemin.
Richard received his B.A. from St. Michael's College in 1953, and his J.D from the University of Baltimore in 1957.
He was married at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Burlington, Vt., on Sept. 6, 1952, to Lorraine (Barron) Beauchemin.
He was a practicing attorney in Maryland for 30 years, and partner in the firm of Arnold, Beauchemin and Tingle for 27 years.
Richard was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church in Winooski, Vt., St. Matthew Church in Baltimore, Md., St. Paul the Apostle Church in Seneca, and St. Mary Church in Sylva, N.C.
He was a former aide to Senator George D. Aiken (R-VT) from 1953-1958. In 1959, he was admitted as a member of the Maryland State Bar and Supreme Bench of Baltimore City, and later received an AV rating from Martindale Hubble. In 1976, Richard was admitted and qualified as attorney and counselor to the 4th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals. In 1986, he was admitted as attorney and counselor to the U.S. Supreme Court. He was Past-President of Maryland Trial Lawyers Association.
Richard was a member of the Lion's Club in Salem from 1994-1996, was a 3rd degree member of the Knights of Columbus since 1952, and was a volunteer Ad Litem in 1996.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Lorraine Beauchemin; children, Cherie Hiner of Sacramento, Calif., Michelle Hurney of Clarksburg, Md., Richard Beauchemin Jr. M.D. of Sylva, N.C., Daniel Beauchemin of Bel Air, Md., Monique Gibson of Abingdon, Md., Louis Beauchemin II of Whitehall, Md., Giselle McDonough of Parville, Md., Bernard Beauchemin of Baltimore, Md., and Joseph Beauchemin D.C. of Salem; 23 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Richard is also survived by six sisters and brothers, Pauline Ducie of Schenectady, N.Y., Cecile Larocque of Swanton, Marie Vasseur of Monroe, N.Y, Raymond Beauchemin of Essex, Jct., Gloria Carpenter of Albany, N.Y., and Paul Beauchemin of Guilderland, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews and other beloved relatives and friends.
The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at St. Frances Xavier Church in Winooski, Vt., followed by interment at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
Memorial services will be held at St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church in Seneca Saturday, April 20, 2002, at 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul The Apostle Catholic Church in Seneca.
