Richard Shymanski Obituary
Richard W. Shymanski, 73, of Greenville, S.C., passed away on Monday, January 18, 2010, at the St. Francis Bon Secours Hospital in Greenville.
Dick was a graduate of St. Louis University and never fully retired. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Turner Joy. Dick retired as President of Harding Shymanski & Company in 2000. Recently, he was President and CEO of Fendrich Industries, Incorporated. Dick was a long-time resident of Evansville, Ind. He served the Evansville community by participating on many boards including Deaconess Hospital, University of Evansville and Vectren Corporation. His mother was very proud that he was a CPA and a Democrat.
Dick was a man who seemed larger than life, until you met him. He was a mentor, advisor, confidant, soccer coach, friend, community leader, lifelong learner, and voracious reader. He served this world as a man who brought integrity, intellect and compassion to all of his endeavors. He was passionate about education for himself, his immediate and extended family and many others through the Richard and Marian Shymanski Scholarship Fund at the University of Evansville. He believed in supporting every community that he lived in both personally and financially. His compassion for people around the world was evident, when he awoke from his surgery, the first words to his family were, "Make a donation to the suffering people of Haiti."
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Marian (Volmert); daughter Chris Kirchgessner and husband Mike; son Don Shymanski and wife Helen; and the light of his life, his five grandchildren, Joey, Jon, and Richie Kirchgessner and Grace and Tess Shymanski. He is survived by his brother, Bruce Shymanski.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Frank A. and Thelma N. Shymanski; brother Donald Shymanski.
A family visitation will be held at the Thornblade Country Club on Thursday, February 4 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers and in celebration of his life, memorial contributions may be made to Deaconess Hospital Foundation, 600 Mary Street, Evansville IN; University of Evansville Foundation -Richard and Marian Shymanski Scholarship Fund, 1800 Lincoln Ave, Evansville 47714 or to the American Red Cross in Relief for Haiti, 29 S. Stockwell Rd, Evansville, IN 47714.
