Robert Stirm Obituary

Robert Paul Stirm, age 86, of 100 West Seven Oaks Drive, died Sunday, May 10, 2009, at his home.

He was a native of New York City and a son of the late Paul and Gertrude Lindemeyer Stirm. He was a graduate of New York University, by which he was awarded BA, JD and LLM degrees.

Mr. Stirm came to Greenville in 1968 to establish a law department for Daniel Construction Company (later Daniel International Corporation). At the time of his retirement, he was Vice President-Law, General Counsel, and Secretary of the company. He was a member of the Poinsett Club, the Greenville Country Club, Buncombe Street United Methodist Church, Zeta Psi and Phi Delta Phi fraternities, and served in the European Theater of Operations from 1944 to 1946.

Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Carolyn Godwin Stirm; children and their spouses, Paul Harter Stirm and Jane McPhillips Stirm of West Palm Beach, Florida, Martha Vinson Stemberger and Dario Josef Stemberger of the state of Singapore, and Carter Latimer Vinson and Kristen Rohrer Vinson of Salem, Massachusetts; and four grandchildren, Phoebe McPhillips Stirm and Robert Vincent Stirm, both of West Palm Beach, and twins, Kathryn Susan and Rebecca Carolyn Vinson of Salem. He was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia Harter Stirm.

Services will be Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at 2 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary with Rev. Grover Putnam officiating. Burial will be Saturday at Mount Hope Cemetery in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 1 p.m. until service time at the mortuary.
