Robert Stoddard Obituary

Former Clemson University Trustee and long time Mayor of Spartanburg, Robert Lee Stoddard, 87, passed away Saturday morning, March 11, 2006.

He was born on December 10, 1918, was the son of Lander Boyd and Selena Roberts Stoddard of Laurens County and was married to the late Betty Boyd Stoddard for 58 years.

He is survived by his children, Frances and husband, George Loudon, Robert L. Stoddard Jr., Wesley Alexander Stoddard, Allen McDavid Stoddard and wife, Mary Ann, Ann Stoddard and husband, Ralph Paquin, Louise and husband Gary Elder of Six Mile, S.C.; nine grandchildren, James Wesley Stoddard, Margaret Alexander Stoddard, Chellis Ann Stoddard, Ann Frances Sullivan Stoddard, Robert McDavid Stoddard, Forrest Taylor Paquin, Miles Latimer Paquin, Bettina Frances Elder, and Bruce Edward Elder II. He is also survived by his sisters and brothers, Selina Hopkins of Charleston, Lander Boyd Stoddard, Charles E. Stoddard, Eugene Stoddard, and Carolina Culbertson of Laurens County and Harry O. Stoddard of Kershaw.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today, March 13, 2006, and from 3 to 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2006, in the parlor of First Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will follow at 4 p.m. in the Sanctuary conducted by the Rev. Larry Bates. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.

Honorary escort will be the Men's Bible Class, Kiwanis Club of Spartanburg, and the Spartanburg County Bar Association.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made by contribution to the Spartanburg County Clemson Club Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 8431, Spartanburg, SC 29305 or to the First Presbyterian Church Winter Warmth Project, 393 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302.
