Tucker William Hipps, 19, of Piedmont, died on Monday, September 22, 2014.

Born in Greenville, he was the son of Gary and Cindy Hipps.

Tucker was a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church accepting Christ at the early age of 10 and also very active in the youth and church sports. He was involved with Palmetto Boys State, where he was a Senior Counselor. Tucker was a 2013 graduate of Wren High School where he participated in school sports and other activities. He was a Sophomore at Clemson University, participated in intramural sports, and was pledging for a fraternity.

He is survived by a paternal grandmother, Opal Hipps; a maternal grandmother, Jeanne Tucker; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends; Tucker is also survived by his best friend, Katie Clouse, who was his soul mate. He never met a stranger, loved many, and was loved by many.

He was preceded in death by a paternal grandfather, Gary M. Hipps, Sr.; and a maternal grandfather, Albert L. Tucker, Jr.

The visitation will be held Friday, September 26, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be held Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Rock Springs Baptist Church College Ministry, 201 Rock Springs Road, Easley, SC 29642, or to Palmetto Boys State, P.O. Box 3309, Irmo, SC 29063.

The family will be at the residence.

One year ago today the world lost a bright and precious young life. Words cannot suffice to explain the sense of loss we all feel in this tragedy. I saw this on the news. It made me think of my grandson at Clemson. I found out yesterday that he knows him. He text me and said he was so sad about Tucker. He told me this earth lost a fantastic man. He asked me to say extra prayers..which I did. So sorry for your lose.

I did not know your son however like many others the sad news of Tucker's passing has brought many of us in SC to our knees praying for your family. Tucker sounds like a precious young man who loved the Lord. Until we all meet again, may you rest in the arms of our Wonderful Lord and Savior. My son attended Palmetto Boys State this year and even though his was not a brother in Tucker's city, he made a lasting impression on his life. He has worn his Boys Stare shirt this week in his honor and even wore orange, which for a Gamecock was not normal, but out of appreciation for Tucker it was a given. His heart has been broken by your loss and your family has surely been in our thoughts and prayers during this time. I hope you are feeling the prayers of the entire state. May God continue to hold you in the palm of hishand and grant you comfort and strength during these days and the days ahead.

It's so comforting to know that your son accepted Christ at such an early age. I also lost my daughter a little over 14 years ago; but knowing that she too had accepted Christ before He called her unto Himself made It much more easy to let go . Mr. Gary, Mrs. Cindy, Miss Kate, and extended family, I am very sorry for the loss of Tucker. Unfortunately due to my work schedule, I will not make his visitation or funeral, but I would like to leave a few thoughts here. He was a great friend, almost like a brother. His smile could light up an entire room, his laugh was genuine, and his heart was made of gold. Being around him would make anybody want to be a better person. The life he lived in the short 19 years he was with us, accomplished more and touched more lives than some lives do after 80 and 90 years. Mr. Gary and Mrs. Cindy, your boy was a man of courage. I don't think he could've had a better raising from you both. The Christian values you instilled within him, stuck outside of the home. Never doubt where he is, because I know our Father welcomed him into heaven with open arms. Kate, his love for you was unwavering and deeper than words could ever explain. I know you saw it when he looked into your eyes, but his friends saw it by the way he spoke highly of you even when you weren't around. The days to come will be hard, but Tuck would want us all to live life to the fullest, with the biggest smile that we could possibly put on during these trying times. We all were blessed with an amazing son, brother, boyfriend, and friend, and now we're all blessed with an even better guardian angel. Deepest regards. Love you all. To my brother Tuck, love you man.
