Anthony Taverna Obituary

On Saturday, October 5, 2024, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and trusted advisor passed away in his home.

Longtime Greenwich resident, Tony was born in the Bronx, NY, on June 14, 1932. After attending high school with the Franciscan monks, he graduated from Baruch college with a degree in business. Early in his career, he worked in the Food and Beverage Industry, becoming one of the youngest managers of The Viking Hotel in Newport, RI. His ambition took him back to New York City, where he became a financial advisor and life insurance agent. He had a long and illustrious career and was given numerous awards and honors.

A man known for his strong work ethic, he would freely speak his mind and was always willing to offer his help and advice. Unlike his bigger than life personality, he had an understated generosity in keeping with his Catholic Faith. In addition to his love of cooking, gardening and traveling, he was an avid reader of history and politics.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mary Taverna, his daughters Rosemary Taverna, Anne Kundapoor, Juliet Taverna-Nahm and his beloved granddaughter Alexis Newman.

The funeral mass will be held on Friday, October 11th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenwich, CT. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwich, CT.

His smile, though rare, was joyous. Some say he "broke the mold". There are stories of churches in Ireland upon which he left his mark. Nobody who ever met him could forget him. In like a lion as they say. Way to go Tony, you had a wonderful life. If we could all be so blessed.
