Fortunato Coppola Obituary

Fortunato "Fred" Coppola, 86, a resident of Stamford, CT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Stamford Hospital.

Fortunato was born on October 9, 1937 in San Mango Sul Calore, Provincia di Avellino, Italy, the son of Giuseppe and Teodora Coppola and one of three devoted brothers.

Fortunato emigrated from Italy to Stamford, CT in 1957. He began his career working as a diligent Tailor passionate about details and apparel. In 1965 he established a successful formal wear shop called Coppola Tailors on Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich, CT. The business was an important part of the community for over 50 years. He dedicated himself to the highest standard of alterations in addition to making suits and tuxedo sales and rentals. He gained a loyal clientele and was sought out for his expertise in formal attire for special events. He valued his relationships with customers and regarded them as friends.

Fortunato cherished time at his home in Florida where he enjoyed the beach, pool, and evening walks with his wife in their community. He was also a fan of soccer, bocce, Italian card games, cruise ship travel and visits to Italy. He looked forward to family meals and time spent with his large Italian family especially his children and grandchildren.

Fortunato is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Luisa (Catino) Coppola; his three loving daughters, Teodora Coppola of Greenwich, CT, Stefania (Michael) Estock of Greenwich, CT, Sandy Coppola of Stamford, CT; his loyal brother, Teodoro (Judy) Coppola of Stamford and his sister in-law Giuseppina Coppola of Stamford, CT; three adored grandchildren, Taylor, Cristian, Kristina as well as many cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

Fortunato was predeceased by his very dear brother, Emilio Coppola of Stamford, CT

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 5, 2024, at Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue in Stamford, CT. Entombment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Greenwich, CT.

I moved to Greenwich in 1976 and became a regular customer
After I moved to Stamford, Fred let me come to your home at night to be "fitted" as I never had time during the day.

He was always cheerful, kind and classy with a great sense of pride in his work.
