Jerome Smith

Jerome "Jerry" Smith, age 82 of Darien, entered into eternal life on May 11, 2023. Jerry was raised in Byram (Greenwich) and was the son of the late George and Josephine Smith. He graduated from Greenwich High School and earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at C.W. Post College.

Jerry married his beloved wife Barbara Chudy Smith in 1964 and later settled in Darien, where they were lifelong residents. Jerry taught Social Studies at Hicksville High School until retiring three decades later. He also worked at various trucking companies over the years. He was well-loved and well-respected in all aspects of his life, especially his work life. Jerry was known for his integrity, work ethic, commitment to family, love of history, excellent drumming skills, and sense of humor. He was described by many as "a true gentleman."

Jerry's memory will be cherished by a daughter, Lori Palau, and her husband, Jay; grandchildren Robert Smith and his wife Fotini; Joseph and Vanessa Palau; and great-granddaughter Willow Smith. Jerry was predeceased by his loving wife, Barbara, beloved son William Smith, and brother Philip Smith.

Friends may greet the family on Monday, May 15, at the Lawrence Funeral Home, 2119 Post Road in Darien, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 16, at 10:30 a.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery in Darien.
