William Henry Fullilove, age 99 (b. 9/23/1924), a retired sales manager in material handling equipment, died on Sunday, May 26, 2024.
Mr. Fullilove, who lived in Putnam Park in Greenwich, was born in South London, England on September 23rd, 1924, the son of the late William John and Emma Johnson Fullilove.
He was a survivor of the German Blitz on London and a veteran of World War II, serving with the British Royal Navy from 1942 to 1945, aboard a Landing Ship, Tank (LST). He saw action during the invasions of Sicily and Anzio, Italy, and D-Day in Normandy, France. He was later stationed at a landing craft base in Cochin, Southern India.
In England he worked for Dexion, Inc. for 16 years and for BT Lift, Inc. for 11 years, selling material handling equipment. He came to the United States from England in 1957 at the newly appointed distributor of BT Lift, and lived in New Jersey until moving to Stamford in 1970, and then to Greenwich in 1984.
Prior to emigrating to the United States, he had come to America three times before: once as a member of the Royal Navy in 1943, arriving in New Orleans for the commissioning of the ship HMS LST 62, and then in 1950 he made two round-trip voyages on the Queen Mary between Southampton and New York City where he ran the men's clothing store aboard.
He is survived by his wife, Jenny Miles Fullilove, two daughters, Karen Fullilove Torenvlied and husband Erik of
Daytona Beach, Florida, and Kimberly Colette Horner and husband James of
Sunrise, Florida, two grandsons, Christopher James Horner and Sean William Horner, one brother, Ronald and wife, Judith, of Dymchurch, Kent, England, two nephews, Robert and Geoffrey Mitchell. He was pre-deceased by his step-sister Emily Mitchell and husband Joseph, of Barming, Kent, England, and sister, Irene of Maidstone, Kent, England.
He was a life member of the British Schools and Universities Club of New York, a long-time member of the Staten Island Cricket Club, and the 34 Nomads Cycling Club of London, England, and an avid tennis player.
Mr. Fullilove was recognized as a leading genealogist concerning the Fullilove name in America. The first of these arrived in the Colony of Virginia in the 1600's, where later their descendants settled in the Southern states, where many are to be found today.
