Charles "Hacky" Prete, 92, a life-long Greenwich resident, died Tuesday, February 4, 2015, at Greenwich Hospital. Born in Greenwich, CT., he was a son of the late Gennaro and Teresa (Chiapetta) Prete.
From 1942 through 1945, he served in the US Army in the European Theatre Operation with the 100th Division. He played baseball, softball and basketball with the 90th Mortar Battalion. After returning from the war, he was employed at Greenwich Country Day School and later owned and operated the Two-Door Restaurant in Chickahominy. He also worked for his brother John Prete in his landscaping business.
An all-around athlete he was honored in 1997 by the Greenwich Old Timers Athletic Association, along with his brother Gus Prete. A former member of the Silvertones, Charles was also an avid and sought after bridge player.
He is survived by nieces, Diane Dys and her husband George of North Smithfield, RI, Jeany McMichael of Smithfield, RI, Marie Biagi of Stamford, CT, Doreen Campbell and her husband David of Nova Scotia, Canada, nephews Donald Biagi and his wife Kim of Fairfield, CT, David Biagi and his wife Josephine of Stamford, CT.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, February 12 at 10:00 am in St. Roch's Church, 10 St. Roch Ave, Greenwich. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, 399 North St., Greenwich, CT.
