Debra Piper Obituary

Debra Ann "Debbie" Piper
November 13, 2024
It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the passing of Debra Ann "Debbie" Piper, a cherished wife, devoted mother, and beloved friend, who left us on November 13, 2024, at the age of 64 surrounded by her loving family.
Debbie was born on April 17, 1960, at United Hospital in Port Chester, NY, to the late William and Jean Washburn Mazurak, Sr. She was raised and educated in Greenwich, graduating from Greenwich High School. Later, she pursued her passion for animals by earning a degree in K-9 grooming from the Edwardian School of Dog Grooming. For many years, she worked as a dedicated K-9 groomer at Norwalk Veterinary Hospital and The Boarding House, where her gentle spirit and skillful hands were admired by both pets and their owners.
On November 30, 1991, Debbie married the love of her life, Richard "Ricky" Piper, at Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church in Greenwich, CT. Together, they built a life filled with faith, love, laughter, and unwavering kindness. Debbie's greatest joy and blessing was raising her three beautiful children, whom she adored deeply. While her children were growing up, Debbie was an active and dedicated member of the PTA. She devoted countless hours to her children's schools and interests, where her enthusiasm and commitment made a lasting impact. She had a gift for telling jokes and spreading joy, making those around her feel warm and welcomed. She was a devoted parishioner at Saint Paul RC Church in Greenwich and a past member of the Women's Guild where she found community and comfort.
Debbie is survived by her loving husband, Ricky Piper, Sr. of Greenwich, CT; her beloved children, Ricky Piper, Jr. New York City, NY, and his girlfriend Caroline, Jeana McKay and her husband Drew of Essex, CT, and Anna Skelley and her husband Connor of Phoenix, AZ; her brothers, Bill Mazurak of Greenwich, CT, and Gary Mazurak and his wife Leigh of Deltona, FL; her sister, Linda Mazurak of Plainfield, CT; her father-in-law, Ronald Piper, Sr. of Dover Plains, NY; her sister-in-law, Pam Piper of Copake, NY; brothers-in-law, Ronald Piper, Jr. and his wife Chrissy of Copake, NY, and Robert Piper and his wife Brenda of Copake, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
Debbie's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. Her laughter, love, and selfless spirit will be missed, but her legacy of kindness and warmth will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Visitation: Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Craft Memorial Home, Inc. 40 Leicester Street, Port Chester, NY.
Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, November 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, 84 Sherwood Avenue, Greenwich, CT Interment: Saint Mary's Cemetery North Street, Greenwich, CT
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Saint Paul RC Church in Debbie's memory.
Debbie, you will forever remain in our hearts.

Debbie had a heart of gold, and was kind to every living thing she met. In addition to that she raised 3 beautiful human beings, and instilled in them her values and work ethic. Debbie did what she was put on this earth to do, and she could not have done it any better. May she rest in peace until we meet again.

There are no words to the deep sadness you all must all be feeling. My heart goes out to you all.

Debbie and I first met when Ricky and Leah were together in Mrs. Moeller´s Nursery School at Western Civic Center. Leah and Gina were in the same year with Katie and Mary and Allison at Glenville School.

During that time, Gina, Anna, Leah, and Haley were very involved in Girls, Inc. with Peggy and Rosie. I remember spending a lot of time in the Girls Inc. Room with Debbie (which was also held in the Civic Center). Then, there was Girl Scouts with Eileen and Kathy.

Throughout all these years, I would run into Debbie at Stop and Shop a lot when it was in Glenville, and even after they closed. She always had a joke or two in hand. Her pure innocence was shown through with her eye piercing smile and her always good to see you hug.

Debbie was one in a million. Her life partner and husband was always at her side. The love that exuded from her was evident in the time and energy she had for her first priority, her family.

The last time Debbie and I spoke this time for a long time, and we were sitting down in chairs, (!) was at Marge´s reception (as opposed to standing in a grocery aisle for a few precious moments as busy shoppers passed us by). I´m glad that we had a good heart to heart that day at The Polish Club. Ricky and Debbie were so kind to let me park in front of their house that day. Debbie was the most genuine and honest person I know.

We will all miss you, Debra Mazurak Piper! God be with you till we meet again.

Dear Ricky and Family,

Completely shocked to learn of Debbie's passing. She was a bright light and always so happy. A Glenville staple where we knew each other over the years as our children crossed paths throughout the school years. May you all gain comfort in each others arms and remember the wonderful memories.

I´ll never forget the Easter vigil and Debbie and I were having a chat afterwards. The church was empty. Mass was probably over for a good 25 minutes. But we were having a great catch-up conversation. We were the only people in the church besides father Les
He gently came over to us and told us it was OK for us to go home now. We had such a good laugh about that. I´ve known her since kindergarten at Glenville school. There´s not a gentler kinder soul. The best thing I can do to honor her is try to treat people like she did. She always took the time to talk to me and you always felt special. Rest in peace, Deb. And may the angels surround your family and help them through their sadness.
