Dora Puglia Williams
Dora Puglia Williams, 63, a resident of Greenwich, CT, passed away unexpectedly on September 13, 2021 after a long and fiercely fought battle with cancer. She was born on April 4, 1958 in Limina, Italy to the late Sebastiano and Giovanna Puglia. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1966. Dora was raised in Rye Brook, NY and graduated from Port Chester High School in 1977. She went on to study at Fordham University, graduating with degrees in English and Italian. She began her career at Ceramiche Piemme in Manhattan, later continuing her work at Greenwich Health Association. After raising her children, Dora pursued graduate work in education, and began a second career as a teacher of Italian at Greenwich High School. Much beloved by her students, she was known for her warmth and enthusiasm in the classroom, her love for the city of Florence, and her work in bringing AP Italian to Greenwich High School. Inspired by and devoted to her students, Professoressa Williams continued to teach despite the challenges of her illness. Her love of music led her to join the Saint Michael's Church Choir as a soprano. She was a proud member of the Greenwich community, serving many years on the Town of Greenwich RTM and Greenwich PTA.
Mrs. Williams is survived by her devoted husband Christopher and her beloved sons Ronald and Daniel, all of Greenwich, CT. She is also survived by her brother Joseph; sisters Maria, Nancy, and Anna; brothers-in-law Philip, Natale, and Vincent; uncle Philip; as well as many nephews, nieces, cousins, grandnephews, and grandnieces.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, September 16 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc., 40 Leicester Street, Port Chester, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, September 17 at Saint Paul Catholic Church, 84 Sherwood Avenue, Greenwich, CT. Interment will follow at Greenwood Union Cemetery, 215 North Street, Rye, NY.

Dearest Dora, you are on my "forever list" of warm understanding and smiling people at Greenwich High School. You were there when my son needed help and understanding during illness never mentioning your own struggle. You will be missed so much as a teacher for my son and an invaluable teacher for all the students there. I will remember your strength in dealing with life as it comes to you. We do not get to choose everything but how to act when life gets hard. You always had a smile and emphaty to give.

Dear family, I am saddened to hear of Dora´s passing; she was a student of mine when I lived in Greenwich in my aerobic dance and step classes. She always had a smile on her face and shared her excitement of raising her young boys- she was so very proud of you. I will remember Dora fondly and pray for u all With deepest sympathy, Carolann Rich Woodbury, Ct

Carissima Dora, I miss our chats so much already. We shared the passion for our job and would talk for hours about our students and the best lessons to create for them. Your students were a priority even in the midst of your fight with this terrible monster that took you away from your loved ones and from us friends. Seeing your smiling face at almost every virtual meeting would warm my heart, every single time. Also because I knew we would chit chat privately and make comments on the presentations after they were done. I will miss that a lot. I want to thank you for your friendship, your lovely words, for the trips you made to meet me at conferences, the laughs and the stories you asked me about Italy: your bond was still so intense, and I hope I helped you a little bit to make you feel at home every time we chatted. I wish I had had the chance to spend more time with you, but I want you to know that your sweetness had a big impact on me. I am so lucky to have had you as a friend. Rest In Peace, dolcissima Dora. Ti voglio bene.

Dora was a big support to my son when we returned from Italy to the United States and he was feeling out of place in Greenwich HS. Then, she became my friend and colleague. Being able to see how much she loved her family will always be one the biggest gifts she left me. I will always have Dora in my heart and her memory will be with me forever. May her family find comfort in the messages of the people outside her family that loved her.
