Emanuel Klein

EMANUEL (MANNY) KLEIN - 84, a long-time resident of Greenwich, died from emphysema at Greenwich Hospital on January 10, 2007. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sandi, and four daughters: Gail Maisel of Mohegan Lake, NY, Karen Mena of Hopewell Junction, NY, Mindy Gibbins-Klein of London, UK, and Andi Grant of Avon, CT. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Manny was an outstanding and inspirational English, Speech, and Drama teacher for many years at Port Chester High School and Queensborough Community College. Upon retiring from teaching, he was a benefits director at the Workmen's Circle in New York City.

In 1988, he returned to his first love of writing and created five screenplays and many plays including several performed in Greenwich. The script-reading brunches at Widgeon Way are legendary.

An active member of the Greenwich community, he served on the boards of Greenwich Kiwanis, AFS, Temple Sholom and Greenwich Reform Synagogue. He also was instrumental in helping Russian immigrants integrate into the local community through Jewish Family Services. An expert scholar in Yiddish language and culture, Manny has served as a consultant and tutor for many people in town.

Shiva will be held at 6pm on Saturday Jan. 13, Sunday Jan. 14, and Monday Jan. 15 at the family home.
