Francis C. Hyson
August 27, 2021
Francis C. Hyson of Greenwich, CT died peacefully on Friday, August 27, 2021 at the age of 92. Frank was born on April 2, 1929 in Neenah, Wisconsin to Loreane E. Hyson (Ralph) and Adolph J. Hyson, one of four children.
Frank graduated first in his class at Menasha High School, then attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Engineering. At MIT, he served as President of the Technology Catholic Club.
Following college and service in the U.S. Army, Frank returned to Wisconsin and worked in production and operations for Marathon Corporation. His interest in the securities industry and economics led him to New York City, where he joined Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith, Inc. to work on one of the industry's earliest efforts to automate reports and systems for securities research. Analysis of market trends was a passion for Frank, which he put into practice at Arthur Wiesenberger & Company. Frank then transitioned to retail investing and worked for many years at Kidder Peabody, before retiring from UBS in 1994.
Years after college, friends from MIT and Wellesley introduced Frank to Mary Toohy, and they married in 1962. Frank and Mary made their home in Greenwich, where they raised their three daughters.
In addition to family, his Catholic faith and education were of utmost importance to Frank. For many years in the 1970s and 80s, he served on the Board of Directors of Greenwich Catholic School. He also served on the Parish Council of St Agnes Church, and as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister.
Frank is survived by his loving and devoted wife Mary, his sister Helen Miller (Clayton), much-loved daughters Kathleen (Dave Accurso), Rosemary (David Junius), and Anne (Matthew Southworth) and nine grandchildren: Mary, Caroline, Christianne, Joseph, Finbar, Clare, Isaac, Lia and CJ. He was predeceased by his brother David, and sister Kathryn L. Murray.
The Hyson family is grateful to Dr. Sunil Rana for his extraordinary care over many years, and for the compassion of all the individuals who helped Frank remain at home with Mary.
