John Wiercioch Obituary

John Wiercioch
John "Johnny" Wiercioch, 99, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born in Poland in 1926, Johnny bravely served in the Polish resistance during World War II, surviving more than two years as a prisoner of war before being liberated by the U.S. Army. He later served proudly in both the Polish and American armies, including active duty during the Korean War.
A longtime resident of Port Chester, New York, Johnny worked for the American Felt Company and Electrolux until his retirement. He met the love of his life, Irene "Moochie" Mateycik, at the Polish Club in Port Chester; they were married for over three decades.
Johnny deeply cherished Veterans Day and found instant connection with fellow servicemen and women wherever he went.
He will be lovingly remembered by his family, including his niece and nephew, Margaret and Raymond Rocco, his grandnieces, Kellie Ambrogio, Sharon D'Emidio and Kristin Coppola, his great-grandnieces, Jordan Bici, Abigail and Cassidy D'Emidio, Theodora Coppola and great-grandnephew Jack Coppola. He was and always will be, our most cherished veteran.
Visitation will be 9AM on Monday November 3, 2025 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc., 40 Leicester St., Port Chester, NY. Funeral Service will follow at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be at Greenwood Union Cemetery with military honors.
