Sverre Bergh Obituary

SVERRE E. BERGH 85, passed away on Sunday April 30, 2006 at Stamford Hospital. Born in Tonsberg, Norway on November 1, 1920, he was the son of the late Erik and Arna Findahl Bergh.

Mr. Bergh received a Bachelor degree and a Masters' degree in Structural Engineering from the Dresden Institute of Technology in Germany. He also received a Masters' degree in Mechanical Engineering from the North Western University in Chicago, IL. He was listed in the "Who's Who of Engineering" in 1959.

He had extensive engineering experience from major companies which include, The Dupont Company for 16 years where he also created three patents; The Lummus Company for 5 years; Adibi Harris for 2 years; DIT Harris S.A. for 3 years; Parsons Brinckerhoff for 8 years; and was also in Real Estate from 1986-2006. He was also on the Norway Olympic Ski Team before the war.

Mr. Bergh was an undercover agent in Germany for the British Intelligence Service during WWII. He was the first recipient of a scholarship from King Haakon's Fund after WWII for his services to the Allied causes. At the 50th Anniversary of WWII, he was recognized by the Norwegian-American Chamber of Commerce for his services in a time of war during WWII. Mr. Bergh co-wrote a biography of his own experiences as a spy for the British Intelligence Service during WWII and is due to be released in September 2006 in Norway, with hopes of it being converted into English and released in the USA in the future.

He is survived by his wife, Laila Saether-Bergh; and his daughter, Solveig Bergh both of Stamford. He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers.

There are no local memorial services at this time. Interment will be in Norway with his family. Arrangements are being handled by the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford. www.cognetta.com
