William Forelli Obituary

Forelli, William (Bill) R.
William R. Forelli (Cap't Bill) died August 22, 2016, age 71. He was born in Greenwich, CT on November 30, 1944 to Matthew and Jane Sloan Forelli and was predeceased by brother Matthew and sister Maggie Urciuoli.
Billy spent his youth growing up in Old Greenwich and he attended a plethora of prep and high schools in and around Fairfield County, Connecticut; he also attended both Boston University and the New School for Social Research in New York City.
Professionally, he worked in the car racing business for the Smothers Brothers Racing Team sourcing sponsors; he invented and patented a shotgun shell lighter, the Winchester Western; and was a licensed boat captain for 28 years. In 1971, he salvaged a stormed-wrecked trawler, completely overhauled it, turning it into a shingled houseboat named "The Aeyrie". "The Aeyrie" was based in Rowayton, CT and frequented Ocean Yacht Racing events on Long Island Sound, Nantucket, Block Island, Newport, RI and was once featured in a MetLife ad.
Most importantly, Bill was known for his unique personality. Anyone who ever knew him has a personal BFOG (Bill Forelli Old Greenwich) story. He had many, many friends and amazingly he remembered virtually every one of them. He loved his life and loved being a Forelli.
Survived by his partner, Ms. Terry McKeon; niece Caryn Jacoby and husband RJ and their children Jackson, Sloan and Maggie; nephews Christian Urciuoli and wife Rebecca and their daughters Jane and Nina; Briggs Forelli and wife Jennifer and their children Matthew and Meg; and Peter Forelli and wife Michaela and their sons Briggs, Beau and Brodie.
A Memorial service to be held on October 25, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Greenwich, 108 Sound Beach Ave., Old Greenwich.

The Forelli family, Billy, Maggie and Matt were Old Greenwich's dynasty. Fun loving, creative, sharing people who made a difference in our lives. All of the memories would fill a 1,000 page book. They were all originals and we must all try to live our own lives as they did as as each moment matters.

I am so sorry to learn that Billy has passed away and extend my sympathies to his extended family and friends. I remember Billy so well because of my close relationship with Matt for so many years. Billy, indeed, was unique but such a kind hearted and fun soul. Difficult to accept that the Forelli siblings - Matt, Maggie and Billy - have all left us in little more than a year. Wonderful family and friends.
God Bless.

Dear Capt. Billy,

I will never forget your Block Island wake up call, Dixie style, how a party erupted any time you drove down Shagbark Rd., and of course your oh so artful 'stash curled at each end. I really was in awe of you and never got to tell you that as an adult. This will be a regret I will have to live with, but knowing you're 'up there' and can say hi to mom &Jack makes it a little easier. :)

My childhood was more far more colorful because of your presence in our lives.

My deepest sympathies to your family and friends.
