Miss Betty Jane Wherry of Charlotte, Arkansas, departed this life on Thursday, Nov. 27, 2025, at the age of 77. She was born on Dec. 22, 1947, in McCrory, the daughter of Paul Daniel and Pauline (Griffin) Wherry.
Miss Betty graduated from McCrory High School and went on to obtain her Bachelor of Arts in Teaching from Arkansas State University. Miss Betty valued education and became a 2nd grade teacher at McCrory Elementary until her retirement. She was a member of The National Federation of Business and Professional Women's Club where she served as the McCrory chapter president from 1988-1990 and received the Woman of the Year Award in 1994. She was also voted McCrory Elementary School Teacher of the Year in 1994 and Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 1996. Upon her retirement Miss Betty moved to Charlotte, Arkansas to be closer to family. While there she became a long-time member of the Charlotte Church of Christ.
She especially cherished her role as Aunt Betty to her nieces, great nieces and nephews, and many other extended friends and family. Aunt Betty enjoyed playing Bunko, traveling, and spending time with her dear friends. She was family famous for her cornbread dressing, loved her cat, Mr. Wilson, and wore the best earrings.
Miss Betty is preceded in death by her brother, Don Wherry, and sister-in-law, Deanna; and her parents, Paul and Pauline Wherry.
She is survived by her brother, Billy Wherry, and his wife, Carol, of Fair Grove, Missouri; her nieces, Donna Voight and husband, Scot, of Yellville, Danae Scott and husband, Jay, of Rogers, Holly Wherry of Branson, Missouri, Amanda Wherry, of Fayetteville; and her great nieces and nephews, Kambri Voight, Easton Voight, Ryken Voight, Mason Scott, Kara Scott, and Leah Scott.
Visitation will be held at the Charlotte Church of Christ at 10:00am Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, with funeral services to follow at 11:00am, with Mr. Chuck Crow officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery.

I worked with Betty in Cotton Plant at the beginning of her career and she was an awesome person - she later taught my children in McCrory school and that awesome person was just as great a teacher - love and prayers for the family - Marion Cain
