Andrea Faye Thompson
Andrea (Faye) Thompson was born in
Montezuma, GA September 2, 1936, and went to be with Jesus February 24, 2023. Born to Andrew and Lyda Whatley, she had one sister, Linda (Flanagan) and two brothers, Robert (Passed 1937) and Andy (Passed 1965). At the age of two, her family moved to
Americus, GA, (which she called home) where she went to school and graduated from Americus High in 1954. She was very active in school, being a member of various clubs, including Choir and Glee, but the one she was most proud of was being a majorette for all four of her high school years. One of Faye's fondest moments in her childhood was when she and her sister Linda (Flanagan) won a singing competition on a local
Americus, GA radio station. The award was a First Place Ribbon and a free dinner at a local restaurant for both. Faye was attending Georgia South-Western when she met David W. Thompson, Jr. on a blind date. They dated six months before marrying on April 8, 1955. The following December 24 their family began with their firstborn - David W. Thompson, III (wife Donna). Within the following nine years, four more boys were added to the Thompson Family: Tony (Passed 2004), Todd, Terry (wife Gloria) and Jay (wife Anna). David and Faye very much enjoyed their 17 grandchildren, which includes fifteen great grandchildren and 1 great-great-great grandchild, these are her pride and joy. During David and Faye's beautiful life together, David's military and civilian work career would take the family to live in nine states and one foreign country, Germany. Faye graduated from Barstow College, in
Barstow, CA in 1980 with a degree in Administration. She would go on to work in the civil service at three different military installations, Port Hueneme Naval Base, CA, Marine Corp Logistics Base,
Barstow, CA and Tyndall Air Force Base, FL (Top Secret Clearance), from which she retired in 2001. Earlier part time work included a Dime Store attendant (fifteen years old), dental hygienist, and a substitute teacher. Faye enjoyed many hobbies and activities, which included gardening, painting, sculpture, various artwork, and writing. She wrote for various Christian and secular magazines including, Guideposts, Dailey Bread, Good Old Days, and Readers Digest. Her proudest accomplishment was publishing a book "Precious in His Sight" (2017). Faye's most cherished moments were when she did things that served The Lord; she was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. Areas where Faye served included directing church plays, leading or singing in Children's, Youth, or Adult choirs, and occasionally playing the piano in church. She also played the piano and sang along with David and church friends as they ministered to the residents at the Beacon Hill Retirement Village and Gulf Shores Care Center. She enjoyed singing solos, and even blended her voice with the Sweet Adelines. While she enjoyed attending Adult Sunday School, she also taught different age groups throughout the years. She was a frequent volunteer and supporter of the Baptist Center in
Panama City, FL, and was a member of First Baptist Church of
Port St. Joe, FL. Faye was a pet lover and enjoyed having dogs and cats around; she would even occasionally add a bird or two to the mix. Second only to her love for Jesus, was her love for her family. She was very devoted to the love of her life - David for almost sixty-eight years, and dearly loved and was extremely proud of her five boys. Funeral services will be 3:00 pm EST Saturday at Long Avenue Baptist Church, 1601 Long Avenue,
Port St Joe, FL with gathering of friends one hour prior to services.
