Donald Charles ("Donny" or "Big D" or "Papa") Lamey, 74, of Moss Point, MS passed away on July 16, 2021, in Jacksonville, FL. Donny was born January 3, 1947 in New Orleans, LA. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Moss Point, SBC. He loved his best friend and wife, Suzanne, of 52 wonderful years of marriage and truly shared life together from being a family with three children to being office partners and truly completing each other. You never really saw them apart from each other. Donny was an Eagle Scout and graduate of Moss Point High School Class of 1965. He graduated from University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor of Science. After graduation, he became a teacher with Pascagoula High School and OLV. Early in his career, he was a member of Moss Point Jaycee's and a member of U.S. Power Squadron. For 46 years, he served as a State Farm agent in the community he grew up in and loved. Donny lived out the motto of State Farm by being a great neighbor and always being there. "Big D" loved working infinite hours in his garage with his family creating many works of arts including endless projects of woodworking, scrimshaw, candles, stained glass, pottery painting, sewing, and anything else with his hands. He was overjoyed to host family and friends for craft time and loved sharing his works with others and the time together. If you ever came over to the house, or were part of a Lamey dinner or cook-out, you probably spent time in his favorite place, his garage or deck, and had a hamburger, a Saturday night steak, or something fried. Over his lifetime, he enjoyed serving in his community through the church, but also assisting and taking care of others and their needs and giving generously. Donny loved sharing stories and jokes and always desired to make others laugh and smile. He always scheduled time to watch the sunset on Beardslee Lake and he was dedicated to making memories with everyone around him whether on the water or at the camp or the gazebo. His family and community were a part of all aspects of his life from working at the office, working in his garage, to making sure everyone was taken care of in all situations. Donny always shared this quote, "On life's road, it's not where you go but who's by your side that makes a difference." The Lamey family is at peace knowing this isn't goodbye, but in his words "Down the Road". Donny was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. John Clifton Jr. and Ruth Lamey, and his brother, John Clifton "Johnny" Lamey, III. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Suzanne Lamey; son, Donald C. (Julie) Lamey, Jr.; daughters, Kristi Lamey, and Tiffany Lamey; granddaughter, Meagan Lamey; brother, Noel (Donna) Lamey; sisters-in-law, Nancy Lamey and Lisa (Mike) Rogers; nieces, Destiny (Jody) Dunn, Clare (Richard) Stegall, and Loren Rogers; along with numerous great-nieces, great-nephew, other relatives and friends. Due to the increase in cases of Covid-19 and for protection of the community and family that Donny loved, his family will be hosting a virtual Celebration of Life service in the future in lieu of an actual visitation and funeral. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Moss Point, SBC, 4807 Main St., Moss Point, MS 39563. Heritage Funeral Home, locally owned and operated in Moss Point/Escatawpa, MS, is honored to serve the family of Donald Charles Lamey. So sorry for the passing of my old friend Donald Lamey. I knew him as Donny when he attended the University of Southern Mississippi, and he lived in an apartment with me and others at times. The Apartment was part of our house that we rented out to college kids. I was the same age as he, and was also attending USM. We enjoyed our time together.
