Betty Sue Enns Moore, 93, passed away Friday morning, March 14, 2025 at Pioneer Manor in Hugoton, Kansas.
The daughter of Dietrich and Susan Ann (Fast) Enns, she was born in
Guymon, Oklahoma on October 16, 1931. Her first years were spent on the family farm south of Guymon. This was during the early days of the Dust Bowl when the whole countryside was blowing away almost on a daily basis. During this time Betty developed dust pneumonia. Her dad had sent for a doctor in Guymon to diagnose what her illness was. The doctor told her dad and mother she would die if they did not move away from all the blowing dirt.
So the whole family moved to Buhler, KS to live in a large three story house with a huge yard surrounding it. Betty and her sister Donna spent a lot of fun times playing in the yard at their Buhler home. At a young age the two of them discussed their love for God as a result of the influence of aunts and uncles there.
When Betty was 10 years old, her little sister Patty was born. This was a significant event in her life. Betty considered Patty her baby and loved taking care of her. That special relationship has always been very strong.
Betty's family lived in Buhler for about 8 years before returning to Guymon to the family farm. Once back there, Betty continued her schooling as well as working on the family farm. She and sister Donna worked at their dad's service station called Enns' Super Service Station. They both had to wear white coveralls according to their dad. Later Betty worked along side Donna as a soda jerk at Jackson's Drug Store.
It was during her days as a soda jerk that she met the love of her life Dale Moore. Betty had a special love for the red convertible that Dale had at that time. She put many miles on it while he was working. They were married on December 4, 1949 and celebrated 73 years of marriage on December 4, 2022.
Family and friends knew Betty as a master gardener. She took great pride in her flower gardens and vegetable gardens. It was said more than once, she could grow flowers on concrete. She was an excellent cook and loved trying out new recipes on her children.
She was known in the family for her cream corn and her fried okra. She was a loving and kind wife, mother, grandmother and great grand. Anyone who met Betty commented on her beautiful smile.
On many occasions Betty remarked to her children of how proud she was of each one of them and how very much she loved them. They were her pride and joy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale L. Moore, parents, Dietrich and Susan Ann Enns, her brothers, Norman and wife Velma, Dickie and wife Lavonne, Robert and wife Lural Enns, brother in laws, Charlie Chapman and Walter Spoonemore.
Survivors include five children and their families, Dannie Moore and wife Becky of Guymon, their children and grandchildren, Ashley Moore, Danielle & Cody Hanson, and Mallorie & Stefan Mueller (children Clayton and Audie Mueller); Larry Moore and wife Carol of Guymon, their children and grandchildren, Jennifer & Trent Poling (children Dustin, Triton, and Alison Poling), Stephanie Moore (children Shaunie Moore and Rhett Yates), and Mitchell Jeffries; Kathi and husband, Charles Horn of Montgomery, Alabama, their children and grandchildren Patrick & Tracy Owen, Dustin & Lisa Owen (children Roland and Florence Owen), and Mary & Michael Gibson (children Lara, Emily and James Owen Gibson); Susan Moore of Guymon; Johnny Moore and wife, Melanie of Guymon, their children and grandchildren Johnathan & Noelle (children McCoy, Marshall, Parker and Peyton Moore); sisters Patty Spoonemore and Donna Chapman, plus many nieces and nephews.
