Darlene Hambleton, 70, passed away Friday morning, February 21, 2025, at home in Guymon.
Darlene Kay (Baker) Hambleton was born to Eugene and Helen (Skelley) Baker on May 27, 1954, in Boise City, Oklahoma. She moved to Guymon as a junior and graduated from high school in Guymon with the class of 1972. Darlene and Robert Hambleton were married in Guymon on March 10, 1972. They raised two daughters, Shana and Tammy. Darlene worked for many years for Guymon Public Schools. Later she worked at Boys Ranch and Ussary Roan Veterans Home in Amarillo. Darlene was diagnosed with Parkinson's in her early 40's and never stopped studying and learning about the disease and ways to cope.
Darlene spent a lot of time with her mother, sisters and their families. Many nieces and nephews lovingly called her "Dar" and looked forward to all the books, games, and toys she collected for them.
Darlene loved to sew and quilt. She was a very talented quilter and spent many years as a member of various quilting clubs and guilds in Guymon. She spent lots of time gardening and loved to can fruits and vegetables. Later in life and despite her physical limitations, she picked up a pool cue and began to hone her skills, developing into a masterful pool player. She was very artistic and looked for ways to create and craft in everything she did. She was a life-long learner, always reading, researching and studying to learn new things.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents Eugene and Helen Baker, her brother Duane George Baker, and brother-in-law Ron Eggers.
Darlene is survived by Jimmy Eagan of the home, daughter Shana Hambleton Lemmings of Checotah, grandson Tyler Hambleton and wife Amber, great-grandchildren Chloe, Wyatt, and Myles, daughter Tammy DeSpain and husband Rhett of Amarillo, grandchildren Allison Brown, husband Robert and great-grandson Liam, Austin DeSpain and wife Rachel, Natalie DeSpain, Ella DeSpain, and Nathan DeSpain. Darlene is also survived by an uncle George Skelley of Six Mile, SC, uncle Ray Baker and wife Beverly of Felt, OK, brother Darrell Baker and wife Sally of Tucumcari, NM, sister Clarine Ellis and husband Jim of Guymon, sister Pam Powell of Guymon, sister ShirleyEggers and husband Shane Hill of Turpin, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
There will be a time of viewing and visitation with the family on Tuesday evening, February 25th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bunch - Roberts Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning, February 26th at 11:00 a.m. at Connection Church, 1901 N. Lelia in Guymon.
