Lloyd Medearis

1940 - 2025

Lloyd passed away from pancreatic cancer on September 2, 2025 at age 85. Born in Filley, MO, on August 8,1940, he went to Eldorado Springs, MO, elementary and graduated from Nevada, MO, high school. He was proud to serve four years in the USAF and Classified Security Service for 18 months in the Philippines. He attended Missouri State University in Springfield, MO, and the U of A in Tucson, AZ, to study history and geology.
On March 12, 1965, after a two-year engagement, he married Betsey McDermott of Nevada, MO. They moved to Arizona in 1967 where he had a successful career as postmaster of Sonoita and Sahuarita and many "fun" jobs after retirement. He loved traveling, driving on country roads, cruising, rafting through the Grand Canyon and especially visiting Civil War battlefields. He was known for his love of cars, his first new car being a 1965 Mustang, silver smoke gray with red interior. He was artistic and enjoyed doodling. A 34-year member, he volunteered at the United Methodist Church of Green Valley, AZ. He also volunteered at the Friends In Deed Friday Socials and at the B/P Clinic.
A highlight in 2023 was the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., accompanied by his son, Michael. He loved 50s, 60s and old time country music. His favorite artist was George Jones. Lloyd was an honest, "genuine" person who loved his family and big holiday celebrations, often seen at the head of the table blowing out candles with grandson Brice, the "apple of his eye." He had a great sense of humor, was witty and had an ever-ready smile.
His bride, Betsey, of 60 years of marriage survives, as well as his two children, Kassandra and Michael; three grandchildren, Nicole, Ryan, and Brice; and 1-year-old great-granddaughter, Chloe. He also leaves a brother, Bill; a sister, Joan; and a special cousin, Ann. He leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close in-laws in Missouri and Wisconsin, as well as countless friends.
His ashes will be interred in Mound Cemetery in Filley, MO, at a later date. There will be a "JOYOUS" Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 8, 2025 at United Methodist Church of Green Valley on Esperanza Boulevard at 2 p.m. Everyone will be invited to share memories, listen to Lloyd's favorite songs and enjoy some of his favorite comfort foods. Memorial donations in Lloyd's memory are appreciated to UMC of GV or Friends in Deed or a charity of your choice.
