Griffis Whitman Obituary

Griffis "Griff" Ruark Whitman, Oct. 3, 1943 - Nov. 19, 2025, lived a life marked by integrity, hard work, and devotion to family. A proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Griff later fulfilled his dream of being a farmer in Dacula, GA. He enjoyed shooting hoops with his daughters and golf with friends. In his later years, he and Barbara made their home in Alabama where she survives him. He is also survived by his daughters, Sloan Jones (Edward) and Slade Wheeles (Keith); grandchildren, Seth Jones, Adeline Chembars, Ashton Beaven, and Keaton Wheeles; six great-grandchildren; and many loved ones. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or the Baldwin County Boys Ranch. Griff will be remembered for his honor, strength, and the lasting lessons he shared.

Remembering back long ago when Griff lived in Harbins and where his two precious daughters were raised. My grandparents, Gertrude and Martin Knight really thought the world of the Whitmans.
Griff was always there when Grand daddy needed a helping hand. I hope the girls remember them. They loved the kids and the whole family. I played with the girls when I was visiting with my grandparents.
God gained a good man and I will always cherish the friendship.
