Penny Rae Obituary

Penny Rae was more than just a name: she was a testament to a life well-lived, marked by adventure, ingenuity, and a profound love for both her family and her crafts. On January 8, 2025, this remarkable woman passed away peacefully at the age of 81, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come. Born and raised on the shores of Georgian Bay, in the Canadian city of Owen Sound, Ontario Penny's early years were filled with curiosity and an insatiable desire to explore the outdoors. Skiing, Sailing, outdoor activities and the ability to create designs through weaving, spinning and crocheting, led her to knitting, embroidery, needlepoint and ultimately to clothing design of her own handiwork. From a tender age, Penny was captivated by the world of roller skating, a calling that resonated deep within her soul, and she wasted no time in pursuing it with unwavering determination. As she studied to become a cosmetologist she mastered the intricacies of Roller dance.... attaining her Silver, bronze and gold dance bars in competition. In the summer of 1961 Penny entered the initial Miss Sauble Beach contest and won the event representing the Starlight Roller Rink. One of her greatest passions was motorcycles, an enthusiasm she shared with her husband and family. Enthusiasm for these machines was nothing short of infectious. Countless weekends were spent touring the country, their thunderous roars echoing through the serene countryside. In those moments, Penny was the embodiment of pure exhilaration, an adventurer on the open road. Also, her love for horses remained undiminished over the years. Even after a tragedy in November, 1979 resulted in the loss of use of her right arm she continued to ride her horses, Guinness and Chinook, tour the country on her Spyder, sail her sloop, engage in her hobbies and be a key member of the Peachtree Spinners and Weavers Guild. While Penny's achievements were impressive, it was her role as a loving wife and mother to four children, Chris, Kit, Brett and Lana. For 63 years, she shared her life with her beloved husband, Rick.
