News Death Notice

RIDENOUR, Dale G. 87, of Monroe, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at his residence. Born to the late George and Emmaline Ridenour on the family farm near Reily, Ohio. He graduated from Reily High School and Miami University where he received his B.S. in Education, his M.A. in Education and Specialist in Education degrees. He began his teaching in the field of Industrial Arts, and coached basketball and baseball. He taught first at Ross High School for two years and then moved to Lemon-Monroe High School where he taught for 38 years. Later, he became Assistant Principal, Dean of Boys and Athletic Director. After retirement in 1982, he soon went back to the classroom as a substitute teacher in Warren County Schools. In 2000, he became a permanent sub for Kings Junior High School where he taught and counseled until 2008. In all, he garnered 60 years in service to Southwestern Ohio schools as a master educator. Dale was a member of the O.E.A, State Teachers Retirement System, the Butler County Retired Teachers Association where he served as President for five years and the Ohio Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (OIAAA). OIAAA honored him in 2000 for his professionalism and accomplishments in building and improving the athletic programs and facilities at Lemon-Monroe High School. Dale also was instrumental in founding the Monroe Historical Society and led the then village's sesquicentennial parade in 1967 dressed as Davy Crockett. He was the regional coordinator for the International Fellowship, Incorporated, placing scores of high school-age exchange students from around the world in southwestern Ohio homes and schools; he and Bertha hosted over 20 for various periods in their own home. He was a member of the Monroe Lion's Club and member and elder of the Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Dale was recognized by the Otterbein Retirement Home for providing over 7000 hours of Geronteer volunteer hours, much of it working with their Alzheimer patients. He enjoyed his ham radio hobby, call sign WN8I, as a member of the Middletown-based Dial Radio Club and had extra status as a communicator and tester for new applicants. Dale was preceded in death by his wife Bertha (2002) and leaves a son, Neil R (Elda) Ridenour of Colorado Springs, CO, a daughter, Donna J. (Dallas) Packer of Hudson, OH; four grandchildren, Kevin (Nicky) Ridenour, Curtis Ridenour, Rachel Ridenour and Daniel Packer. He also leaves a brother, Carl (Nancy) Ridenour of Sharonville, OH; one niece, Susie and one nephew, John. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Wilson Schramm Spaulding Funeral Home, 3805 Roosevelt Blvd., Middletown, with Reverend Patrick Warren officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service from 12:00 noon - 1:00 pm at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Rose Hill Burial Park, Hamilton.
