Dorothy STITZEL Obituary


News Death Notice

STITZEL, Dorothy A. Dorothy Alice Stitzel (nee Gorsuch) passed away on September 13, 2014 at the age of 95. She was born to Effie (nee Murphy) and Pearlie Gorsuch on March 8, 1919. Dorothy grew up on Tylersville Road with two sisters, graduating from West Chester High School. She was married to John L. Stitzel for 54 years until his death in 1991. They began their married life on a dairy and swine farm in Reily Township. Dorothy had been an active member of Faith Church, formerly Faith United Church of Christ, Reily P.T. A. and Butler County Farm Bureau Women's Committee. As president of the Farm Bureau Women, she attended a convention in New York City where her picture was featured on the front page of the New York Times. Dorothy was an excellent cook, enjoyed oil painting, gardening and reading. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Judith Ann Stitzel, her sister, Lucille Wulzen Cornell, two nieces, several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She leaves two daughters, Janet Stitzel Breeden, Lois Stitzel Cropenbaker; Dorothy's beloved son- in-law, Bill Cropenbaker; grandchildren, Alison (David) Breeden Duncan, Susan Breeden Reams, Seth Cropenbaker and Molly Cropenbaker; great grandsons, Elijah Reams and Ethan Reams; sister, Geneva Mount and nieces and nephews. Janet would like to thank Lois and Bill for the special care they have given Dorothy over the past several years. Janet and Lois are following their mother's wishes to let her rest peacefully with no public services. Private burial will place her beside her husband in Millville Cemetery. Weigel Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorials can be sent to the Reily Township Volunteer Fire Department and EMS, Station 132, 4833 Garver Elliott Rd., Oxford, Ohio 45056 or to Hospice of SW Ohio, 7625 Camargo Road, Cincinnati, Ohio 45243.

Our sincerest sympathy to Dorothy's family...you have given up to heaven a sweet, quiet, fun-loving, talented, beautiful lady...we will miss her tremendously...she made us better people, we shall treasure knowing her with sweet memories. God Bless you all as He welcomes another lamb back to His heavenly fold...I'll watch for the new "Dorothy Star" in the night sky. Love and hugs to you all - Wayne, Pat & Jason
