Family-Placed Obituary

SCHENK, Gladys Age 96, of Hamilton passed away in Hospice of Hamilton at Sunrise on Friday, April 22, 2005 at 1:24 a.m. She was born in East Bernstadt, Kentucky on March 21, 1909 the daughter of James and Nellie (Adams) Meece. Gladys was a member of the Salvation Army, was a Silver Star Mother of the Salvation Army, a member of the Home League of the Salvation Army, and a member of the Moose Lodge #36 Auxiliary, and was employed as a cook in the cafeteria for Fairfield North Elementary School for twenty years, retiring in 1981. On April 23, 1927 in Hamilton, she was married to Walter "Whitey" Schenk, and he preceded her in death in 1973. She is survived by five sons, Charles Schenk of Hamilton, Robert (Juanita) Schenk of Hamilton, Russell Schenk of Williamsburg, Kentucky, Ronald Schenk of Hamilton, and Major Thomas (Bonnie) Schenk of Syracuse, New York; one daughter, Mary (John) Hoffman of Hamilton; one step-daughter, Ruth "Margie" Grazar of Phoenix, Arizona; also by fifty-one grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren; and by one sister-in-law, Thelma Meece of Dayton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons, Arnold, Eugene and Carl; four daughters, Lillian Bauer, Helen Crain, Rosanel Eversole, and Mildred Sergent; two brothers, George and Robert Meece; and one sister, Merle Smith. Funeral service will be held at the Brown Dawson Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, on Monday, April 25, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Doug Wolf, Pastor of the Freedom Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to the Salvation Army or Hospice of Hamilton.
