Grover MOORE Obituary

News Death Notice

MOORE, Grover G. Was born in Eminence, KY on June 30, 1918 to Gilbert and Rebecca Moore. On Tuesday, December 15, 2015 he went home to live with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. What's remarkable is what he did during the dash that represents the 97 years we were blessed to have him. Grover was always a man with whom family was at the top of his priorities. With a limited education, he was given the responsibility of being the man of the house. His first job was carrying big blocks of ice on his back, delivering it to people who were fortunate enough to have an ice box. At the age of 25 he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served during WWII. As a mechanic and truck driver he was significant in the building of the Burma Road, as he took fire and lost many friends. While still stationed in Gulfport, MS, he met Jennie who he married, right before the signing of the Peace Treaty in 1945. Upon receiving an Honorable discharge, he and Jennie moved to Middletown, Ohio, and in 1947 they had their first child Kenneth, followed by Karen, Keith, Kathy, Kimberly, and Kristi. Who, in turn, blessed them with 13 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 4 great- great-grandchildren. Not only was Grover a man of faith, a loyal husband, a devoted son, brother, uncle, father and grandfather, he was also a reliable employee, a humble employer, and a caring friend to everyone he met. As a matter of fact, Mr. Moore never met a stranger, and was willing to help everyone, no matter how tired he was. From cutting his neighbor's grass, to picking up a client from the airport, or a stranded child on the side of the road in Indiana. No obstacle stood in his way of being and doing all that he could. He was employed by Diamond National and retired from Miami University. However, Grover was best known for the business he built, "Grover's Butler & Chauffer Service". His employers: Collin Gardner, Calvin Verity, William Verity, along with Tom and Mary Worthly and many others became more like friends and family, rather than employers. Who can forget the New Year's Eve Parties? The dash between 1918 and 2015 is just too short to list everything he's experienced from having to drink from "Colored Only" water fountains, to witnessing the first black President. Grover Moore was the greatest example of what a true man was meant to be. He will live on in our hearts forever. He will be missed, but he will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace, Daddy. Enjoy the good life in Heaven. You earned it - Job well done! Friends may call Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 10:30am until time of service 11am at Faith United Church, 9 Baltimore St., Middletown, Ohio, Rev. Michael A. Bailey, I, Pastor.

The Moore Family: Our Middletown family, now spread across the country, learned of Mr. Moor's passing through still checking the Journal on line. Mr. Moore drove our elderly mother (late 70's and possibly early 80's from 15th Avenue to and from the Cincinnati Airport a number of times.
She greatly appreciated his timely, courteous, and professional services. We are thankful for his assistance to our Mother. His family can be proud of him in this work in the Middletown area.

What a Legacy of being a man of GOD! A wonderful servant to the United States Armed Forces and a proud Veteran. I will miss him at the Solid Rock Church Veterns Honors Celebrations and at our church services. As long as he could he proudly lead those veteran's services and was looked up to by the younger servicemen, veterans and younger christians for how to live well serving CHRIST, their families, and their country. Rest on Mighty man of GOD, you were faithful and have earned your rest.
