Family-Placed Obituary

GARDNER, Horace J. Age 91, of Ross, Ohio passed away Tuesday evening January 17, 2006 at the Veteran's Nursing Facility in Ft. Thomas, Kentucky. He was born on October 2, 1914 in Fairview, Indiana the son of William F. and Edna C. (Hinman) Gardner. During World War II, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps where he received the Purple Heart. He was married to Lois DeYoung and she preceded him in death in 1981. Horace was a retired letter carrier. He enjoyed gardening and in his later years, he enjoyed playing Bingo. He is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Schmidt of Ross, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Kim Emerson, James (Chalona) Gardner, Rick Gardner, Mike Gardner, Anne Franklin (Pete Lanphier Jr.), Theresa Ryan, Angela Schmidt (Jerome Schinaman); sixteen great grandchildren; and many other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Gardner; one son, H. Jim Gardner; one brother, Frank L. Gardner; and one sister, Beryl Gardner Sigmon. Funeral services will be held at Charles C. Young Funeral Home, 4032 Hamilton-Cleves Road, Ross, Ohio on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. with burial following in Arlington Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:30 until the time of service. If desired, memorials may be made to the Volunteer Services C/O VA Nursing Facility 1000 S Ft. Thomas Blvd. Ft. Thomas, KY 41074.
