James Morgan Obituary

News Death Notice

MORGAN, James Gerald, MD James Gerald Morgan, MD, (Jerry) died peacefully on December 3, 2009 in Reno, Nevada. He was 93 years old and had lived a long, productive and blessed life. James Gerald Morgan was born to James and Clara Morgan on March 25, 1916. He was the youngest of seven children. As an accomplished musician he worked his way through Wilberforce University. After graduation he was a band leader, at age 28 he taught music in Tennessee and met a wonderful music student, Vesta Martin. They were married in Chattanooga, TN. Shortly there after, he served in World War II as a Master Sergeant. After the war he went to Law School for two days then subsequently enrolled and completed Meharry Medical College. Jerry and Vesta eventually settled in Columbus, Ohio where he practiced Family Medicine for over 30 years. Jerry was an extraordinary man; an astute listener who demonstrated a considerate, wise and caring demeanor; never to be forgotten by his patients. He loved God and loved his family and medicine. At 74, he retired from medicine and learned to play the organ, taking lessons at Capital University. In 1999 he and his wife, Vesta, moved to Reno to be close to his son and family. There he served as a church organist until he was 90 years old. Other family members who proceeded in death were sisters: Myrle Rush, Genevra Hunter, Elsie Morgan, Lula Howard; brother, George, and nephew, Rev. Cecil Howard. He is survived by son, Jay, who followed in his field of medicine & daughter-in-law, Sherry, along with grandsons, Jayson, Justin, Austin, and many other family and friends. Celebration of Life Service in Reno was held on December 19, 2009 at Walton's Sierra Chapel, 875 W. Second Street. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to: Evelyn Mount Community Services, 2530 Cannan St. Reno, NV 89512

Dear Dr. Jay Morgan and family,

Members of the Central Ohio Theatre Organ Society remember fondly the gentle laughter and words of wisdom Dr. Morgan would provide from time to time. He loved to sit at the Wurlitzer's console and let his fingers do their musical magic while we listened. He enjoyed working on the intricate valves and wiring of the Wurlitzer pipe organ almost as much as he loved practicing medicine.

Our prayers are with you and your family during this time of sorrow. May the pleasant memories of his life comfort you.

My sincere condolances to you Jay and all of your family. I know I would not be where I am today without your excellent care which was above and beyond any doctor! I always knew you came from a highly ethical and caring family. I am sure you are where you are today partly because of the great man who raised you. I am grateful you followed in his footsteps, and took such great care of me, big hugs to you all. Sincerely Ana Warner~Schofield

Dear Dr Jay Morgan and Family,

I was so sad to hear of Dr James Morgan's death. I had only known him for about 8 months, but I feel like I got close to him very quickly. He was so sweet, gentlemanly, and had a good sense of humor. It's easy to see how he had such happy patients when he was in practice. I belive he passed his good bedside manner(as well as other traits such as intelligence, good looks, honor, etc) on to his son and then his grandsons. The world has a lot to thank him for. I'm very thankful that I got to meet him and spend time with him.
Respectfully,
Anne Ferguson
